[Help] LG Drive doesn't detect CD!!!

I am writing in because I think I've exhausted all means of trying to fix an issue with my drive.

As title states, I inserted a DVD into my LG GH24NS90 but Windows 7 is not detecting it.


Info about my computer :
GA-Z68XP-UD3 (rev. 1.0) - Gigabyte


1. Installed Windows 7 OS on IDE mode
2. Tried burning a DVD using ConvertXtoDVD but it burns very slowly (even though it was set at x16) and it freezes the computer when burning.

Hence, I tried to change it to AHCI mode as information on the internet says changing it to AHCI would solve the problem,

1. Update drive to latest firmware.
2. Changed to AHCI (in BIOS) and selected my SSD to boot with success!
3. Tried to insert DVD into drive but not detected!


What can I do!!!

Or Imgburn at x4 speed, I suggest using this version if you try it because the newer versions have added stuff in the installer,

Is the drive shown in the Hardware section of your BIOS?
If you're using the gray GSATA headers for connecting, try one of the blue ones instead, or vice-versa.

Yes the drive has appeared on the Hardware section of my BIOS.

I am using the blue SATA headers and am on AHCI mode,

trying your method of switching it to GSATA and testing now. Will update on a new post.

UPDATE: Not working. ConvertXtoDVD does not recognize the CD in drive. Neither does Windows detect the CD. Going to try IDE mode on GSATA and see if it makes any difference.

UPDATE 2: IDE on GSATA mode not working either.

I think the 'needle' is spoilt hence it won't read the disk. Guess I'll just have to buy a new one.

At one point you say DVD & at another you say CD not recognized. What are you trying to burn & which disc, DVD or CD ?

Drive appears in BIOS as per normal.

CD gets recognized at times and disappears at the next moment. Like it's buggy.

Hi Doc, sorry if I have confused the readers.

I am trying to burn a DVD. However my computer won't read even a CD or DVD when I insert it.

I have a couple of these LG Super-Multi's, work find for me. I suspect bad cables or a defective drive. Inexpensive to replace cable or the drive itself.

I agree with Doc, it could be one of the lasers, or more likely the drive motor has failed.
