just a quick query - I have been searching everywhere (including the net) for a clue as to the location of the 'open with' folder.

I want to edit one of the program titles, in this folder (because it is a long advertising strapline I want to get rid of)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers

There is no folder. The installed program registers the allowed extensions into the registry.

---------------

What is "advertising strapline" in relation to programs and operating systems?

It's not splash screen. It's not shortcuts.

Hi Giga
So where will I find the allowed extensions in the registry? Obviously there's an entry with this text on it?

To answer your question - an 'advertising strapline' is a long piece of text and a slogan, used in the advertising business.

So on my open with menu by the icon it says 'Use PDF Maker the best little program in the business and the best for everyday use'

Personally, I don't need to be told this everytime I open the folder, so I am trying to remove it.

Cheers

You can search the registry for that text as well (you will have to edit the registry for this, it is where that resides). Open regedit

Start> In search box type regedit> Enter> When regedit opens click Edit> Find> Make sure all 3 boxes in Look at are checked> In search box type Use PDF Maker the best> Click on find next

This should locate that text string. A Guy

I use PeaZip. I open properties of an archive file such as .zip or .rar. I then click on change for open with. A dialogue box offers PeaZip, file and archive manager.

"file and archive manager", then, is the advertising strapline. In my case, it's not that long. In your case, it is.

I then use regedit to get into the registry and find "file and archive manager".

Prior to editing, the string was found in shell/muicache in all instances. Second time around, the first instance had the string removed. Subsequent search revealed no more instances, meaning all instances were changed.

I went back to properties/open with and the dialogue box now reads PeaZip with no advetising strapline.
