By my overestimation Win 7 Ult. 64 and several other programs I have open all the time are totalling 26 gig's. I want to install and get the speed benefits from a SSD and I'm considering a 60 gig drive as it is much more affordable than the larger drives currently.
1) Is my logic sound ?
2) What brand are you having the best luck with ?
3) What down falls are there to this technology and is a wait worth while.
4) How much other software we use daily should go on this drive like Adobe Antivirus and the like?
5) My goal is to then set up 3 sata 1 tb mechanical drives in a Raid configuration which I'm still learning about and questions about it could be a separate thread, offered as FYI !

Logic is sound. i run my machine with an 80GB SSD for the OS, apps and a couple of games and I have 1 mechanical drive for scratch space and storage.
I have the Intel X25-M Gen 2 and I have been very happy with it thus far. While not the best in sustained benchmark speeds...it's random IO is great and that is where it really counts with the OS
Downfalls are cost and small size
I would put everything I could on the drive
Why do you have to setup your mechanical drives in RAID?

If you use your SSD strictly for Windows 7 and your hard drive for program files etc. you will be very happy, there are many, incluing me, who do this. 60 Gb is more than adequate for this.

My thinking on a raid array for my 3 tb drives is to have a constant mirrored back up stratagy with the raid array. I will still use my 2.5 tb esata's for additional back up. Again my knowledge of Raid is limited but an extremely knowledgeable tech has offered this advice versus my current BU strategy. This has been a lesson hard learned that there's only two types of drives.......one that have failed and those about to fail ! lol...so true.
Hey another good question: Any mounting tips. brackets, adapters needed?

I'm not a big fan of mirrored for home. Reason being: If you accidentally delete a file or get a virus and it wipes out files...it blows our your copies on your mirror immediately. I much prefer multiple external drives...which are kept offsite to protect against fire or other catastrophe.
