I recently changed my home screen log-in password but I hardly ever used it because I always just used the finger scanner. For some reason it wont let me use my finger scanner anymore. Whenever I try it says I could not be logged on and a password is required. I am the only one with fingers scanned and I have three fingers entered. I tried all of them with still no luck. The problem is that I forgot my password and so I am unable to use my administrator log-in. Is there anything I can do?? (and I tried resetting the password, but I did not do the USB thing they said so I am unable to change it)

p.s. it is an HP dv7-4177nr Entertainment Notebook running Windows 7, 64bit

I ran into a similar issue with my HP dv8t a while back. I had to update the finger print scanner driver. However, I knew my password and was able to log in to my user account that way. After I updated the finger print driver, I was swiping to log in in no time. So, after saying all that, I'm probably not much help. :o

This machine was given to me when my dad bought a new computer. I keep throwing upgrades at it and it keeps on ticking. Think I've done everything to it that can be done outside a PSU upgrade so I can run an even BETTER GPU.
I'm betting you're going to need to be logged in but,

Go to HP's web site > Support & Drivers and fill in the info it asks for. If there are any drivers available, this is where you will find them.

Mine was under the sub-directory "Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices."
Then, "Validity sensor Finger Print Driver"

Yours may be called something different but that's where I got mine.

Hope this helps!
