HELP nearly up-to-date w7 system went into System Restore
Actually, when a pc does not shut down properly or crashes in the middle for various reasons, it restarts in the recovery options screen. But its purely your choice whether you want to go for/with any recovery options or start windows normally. From my old memories I also once had this situation but i selected to 'Start Windows Normally' & it never came back.
To be very clear : if the same thing happens repeatedly without any known reason, one should start to look for reasons.
2. There are basically 3 types of settings with Windows Updates : Automatic Updation, Check for updates & download them but let me choose to install & Check for updates but let me choose to download & install them. Depending on your settings, may be that your OS is just checking for updates and/or downloading them but it will wait for your nod to actually install them.
You would have looked in the update history to find out whether something was installed without your nod!

(a) Actually '.NET' comes built in with all the recent windows OSs, Windows 7 by default comes with :

(b)As for need to install Net. Frame work in win 7, one should compulsorily install 3.5 SP1 & all updates related to it & previous versions. But one may need to install NET 4.0 or Higher if needed by one or more apps. To just use as a program dependency
Client version is just enough than a
Full version. If you need to use 4.0 Client, better download & install 4.6.2 & then make all the updates for it.
(c) A normal user does not know about so many components, he is using in OSs. He comes to know about them during troubleshooting OS problems!

The minimum requirement for that update is 4.6 or 4.7 installation.
One more requirement is here : It has to be made even before 4.7 installation.

You should make sure that minimum requirements are made & then only you made the above update. As that update was offered to you by windows updates, there is probability that you had the minimum requirements. I think Installed programs list &/or update history can tell you about it. Otherwise If you can restore to a point prior to that update installation, you can just go & check it into the installed programs list.
