Help needed for transferring games from a desktop to a laptop!

My brother has his eye on a game that comes out in November, which he plans on installing onto his desktop, which is Windows XP. His problem is that he also wants to install it on his laptop which is Windows 7, but his disc drive is broken. Is there a way to copy the program files over from the desktop to the laptop without going down the route of replacing the broken disc drive? Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Not really just copying the program files won't work in most cases.
If he is using steam he has no problem because he can just install steam on whatever computer and download/install whatever games he has purchased through them.
Replacing a standard dvd drive is super cheap these days. If you have access to a microcenter
To be more specific I would need to know the exact games in question here. or fry's or other large electronics outlet like that you should be able to find something reasonably priced.

The game is called Football Manager. Rather popular here in the UK but not so sure anywhere else. Getting a new disk drive isn't a problem, just wanted to explore other avenues before he went down that road. He's not using steam, though I could suggest it to him. Thanks.

Yeah some people hate on steam, but it completely eliminates the need for discs or backups.

Yes actually. You can create a .ISO file of the game disk on the desktop (assuming that one has a basic CD/DVD drive), and then use a USB drive or else an External HDD to transfer that file onto the laptop. But you will have to use a program called ImgBurn (to create the .ISO file off of the original game disk files) and Daemon Tools Lite (to mount the .ISO file, just like what a disk drive does with a CD/DVD).
