Help needed getting information from .Contact files

Here is my problem - I successfully migrated all of my data onto a new windows 7 laptop - including all of my contacts which were arranged under the contacts folder within my user profile. I then, being careful, copied all of the files onto an external hard drive for in case my new laptop failed. (In fact two external hard drives being extra careful)

That was when things went downhill - laptop failed and an old usb drive failed (where I had the contacts in csv format) . I now have all of my contacts in a folder on an external hard drive - each of them is a person_name.contact file copied directly from \users\username\contacts on windows 7

So now I have .contact files but no windows 7 machine to copy them on to. (Only XP machines available - I never had Vista)

Any suggestions how I can import the .contact files into something - ideally i'd like to end up with them in a csv file again because at least i can read that in emergencies!

The .contact files seem to be XML but before I write something to try and extract all of the info, I am hoping for an easier solution.

With thanks in advance
