I have a very enjoyable problem.
theres an AVerMedia-TV-Card in my pc and every time i try to watch tv with it, i only see gray, really. i can slightly see the structures of the picture, but it rather looks like looking through some gray-painted glas.

i tried to watch tv in media center then but that did not help either. i have all available updates installed. the tv-output works just fine under Vista and XP, both x64. My windows 7 installation is x64 aswell.
my hardware, i have 4gb ram, a c2q 9450 and a GTX 280. the OS is installed on a Raid1. and the mainboard is based on the P45-Chipset from intel.

anybody else encountering similar problems?

You should change your settings in your TV card's application settings.

This is usually caused by having selected a wrong country format.
Look for settings having to do with formats like PAL-BG, PAL-SECAM, NTSC etc...

If you're in USA, you must select NTSC as your video format.
If you're outside US, you must select PAL-BG or something similar. Play around the settings and you'll figure it out.

well, the format was - and is - set to pal aswell as region is set to germany and under the exact same settings, the video is okay under vista. so it definately has something to do with seven.

same problem with avermedia Hybrid. fine under vista.
i tried all differend drivers from avermedia.de, also the beta driver that allows AERO.

its not a problem with PAL/NTSC.

i worked on that the last 2 weeks, but nothing helped. thats the only reason why is use vista. i dont want to reboot for watching tv

I found a solution on some russian blog. I am not good in russian, so it may be some missinterpretation... anyway, it worked for me:
Go to C:\Users\[user name]\Documents\AverTV\ and delete [user name].ini (make a backup in case...)
Start AverTV #New [user name].ini file will be generated
Close AverTV
Edit [user name].ini - just change lines like follows:

VIDEO_RENDERER=1
[AVerMedia M15H PCI Analog]
AP_VOLUME=100
Analog_TimeshiftParam_AudioBitRate=224
Analog_TimeshiftParam_AudioSampleRate=48000
Analog_TimeshiftParam_VideoBitRate=5000
Analog_TimeshiftParam_VideoSize=4
Brightness=128
BrightnessVMR=128
COUNTRY=380
ColorPeak=0
Composite_DefaultFormat=1
Composite_Format=SECAM
Contrast=68
ContrastVMR=68
EnableBrightness=1
EnableContrast=1
EnableGain=1
EnableSaturation=1
Gain=144
OPEN_SUBTITLE=0
PREVIEW_DIGITAL_SOURCETYPE=1
PREVIEW_INPUT_SOURCE=2
PREVIEW_INPUT_SOURCE_NUM=1
REC_BUFFER_SIZE=4000
REC_FORMAT_1_1=REC_DVD
REC_TIMESHIFT_KEEP=0
REGION=
SVideo_DefaultFormat=1
SVideo_Format=SECAM_D
Sample_Rate=4
Saturation=64
SaturationVMR=64
Source_Resolution=64
TURN_ON_EQ=0

Save the file and start AverTV again.
After rescaning channels everything works perfectly.

Thanks, but this solution already got posted in that other thread mentioned in this thread, but it does not work for my card, sadly :cry:.
right now i am running vista with my tv-card and hope i can find some local workshop to cut some alu for my htpc and then i do not have to care about tv-cards under win7 anymore anyway. ^^
also, avermedia assured me, that working drivers will be released when win7 will get out the beta-stage. hopefully they will manage. there is not much time left and i do not know if win7 will be available over msdn Academic alliance or not. (if so, i will get it for free like the 2 win vista and the 2 win xp versions. (one x64, one x32, but the keys work under booth versions so it does not matter, and booth are professional/business-versions, so its quite cool. ^^)

okay, now this is weird:

i just installed the rc-version of win7. i did not do anything except running windows update. during the update, it installed something titled aversomething, this time without any troubles. so i thought "lets see if the tv-card works now!"
started media center, scanned for channels. when i then switched to the watch-tv-part, i was surprised to see a clear video-output. no grey and nothing. only a bit poor quality.

so stupid me thought i could aswell try avermedia again. installed only the software, not the driver (!) and started avermedia. same result, video is grey. switched back to media center: video output grey, too. uninstalled avermedia: video-output still grey in media center.

so to me it appears like the avermedia-software, not the driver, is in some way causing the trouble. (as if it install some bad video-render or something)
if anybody of you is willing to watch tv via the media center, this could be a solution. ;)

TV Soft: AVerTV v6.0.12 (08072101)
Driver: v3.5.0.65 / v3.5.0.69

Same problem with gray picture
For me is just enough add this two lines above [UI_SECTION] or in my case in section [AVerMedia A16D PCI Hybrid DVB-T]

Code:
[COLOR=Red]ContrastVMR=64
SaturationVMR=64[/COLOR]

or you can just use this simply patch

well, i finally got it to work for me, too. in fact, that patch helped, but the most important, what nobody told me, was to set avertv to use the video mixing renderer instead of leaving it on auto. ^^

did you try to play around with the settings in the aver-software after applying the patch? look under configuration -> "forms"?
(i dunno if its called forms in the english version, it should be the first one with a +/- in front of it indicating its expandable)

once there, look out for some field that has something with video renderer or something written above. should be a drop-down where you can select diferent ones. try the Video Mixing Renderer. it should do the trick. ;)

AverMedia M135C

Hi
I've this PCI Hybrid card, perfectly working under Windows XP Pro 64bit, but, with Windows 7, there are many troubles. My software is WindVr 6 (by Intervideo) .
1) Digital tuning isn't complete. In order to fix this trouble I've imported the 'chan' file from XP 64bit!! (it's strange, but working)
2) When I try to record a clip, the program shuts down.
3) The software from Avermedia doesn't find the card!

So I can watch television, but not recordering!

I'm becoming crazy
Regards
Donald:(:(
