Help needed locating what process is using a port

Hi there,

I've got some unusual UDP traffic going to a port on my system and I'd like to know what is responsible for it. Unfortunately the tools I previously used to do this type of thing don't appear to work in Windows 7.

Does anybody know how I can get the PID for the process that is receiving UDP traffic at a certain port on my system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated because it's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

Best Regards

Wireshark should enable you to track down where that traffic is coming from.
Wireshark Go deep.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I do have Wireshark running, in fact that's actually what alerted me to the traffic. I don't know of a way to get it to reveal the PID of the process that's doing the listening though. I've had a look through the help manual and I don't see anything of relevance. Do you have any idea of how I might use it to do what I need?

Cheers

I really havn't had the need to work with Wireshark very much so I can't say for sure. You might try looking in TaskManager for any strange running processes then right click and have it open the file to see where it is.

Hey thanks for that Etihtsarom, CurrPorts is exactly the kind of tool I was looking for. Curiously though since posting on this forum the traffic appears to have ceased and it had been going on for a couple of days at least. Spooky...

Anyhow thanks to you both for your assistance, much appreciated.

Best Regards
