Hi,

I recently checked my network map and came across this:

Untitled-2.jpg

What could Unknown Be?

This map shows me being connected to Unknown, then to another machine on the network, the gateway and then the internet.

I am not connected directly to the other machine. Why does it say I am?

Me and the other machine on my network say the same thing.

What is happening?

Thomas :confused::confused::confused:

Hello,

The network map is not 100% correct. It looks like you and another PC are connected to a wireless access point which is either on or connected to your router.

I wouldn't worry about it. Windows just cant identify the device.

Response to an old but still relevant post

This ? may very well be your firewall in the router if it is activated.
It is more likely that it is the windows firewall or a third party firewall
that is sitting between your system and the router gateway where it would
have to be to intercept your network activity..Deactivate your
firewall and see if the ? disappears. If it does then you will have your answer.
If it remains go to system>device manager and review any active network adapters
that you may be using. The ? may be one of them. Use the process of elimination by
disabling one after another to track down which one it is and decide if you need it or not.

Anti-virus or anti- spyware scanners may place redirecut there, hidden by self protection producing the "?".
