Solved Help on creating routes for two gateways

Hi guys,

I searched in the forum and I couldn't find the answer to my problem, so here it is:

I need to manually configure a route in one computer that is connected to different networks, with two different gateways, one is on a cabled interface, the other uses a wireless adapter. The wireless connection is for internet, and the proper configuration is this:

Windows 7 x64
IP Address: 10.190.49.111 (or any other termination needed)
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.190.49.254

The cable connection is for a dedicated server that stores images from 10 IP cameras. Any computer connected and configured in this network can use a specific program for real time monitoring. The config is as follows: (I did not configured this server)

Windows Server 2008 R2
Cameras: 162.16.0.50 to 59
IP Address: 167.200.210.133
Mask: 255.255.255.252
(things are messy on the server, I can post a Screenshot if needed)

A computer perfectly working and monitoring the cameras uses this configuration:

IP Address: 162.16.0.15
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 162.16.0.10 or 167.200.210.133, both works
(This computer do not access internet, and is not required)

THE OBJECTIVE:
Add a computer connected to the camera server with cable interface, and connected to the internet with the wireless adapter.
Already tried to manually add a route for the internet/cameras with no succcess.

Any ideas ?
I can give more details if needed.

Odd that you can not set what you want with each adapter, can you post a screen shot of your network connections window. Also try leaving the gateway blank for only the lan connection so that all internet traffic goes though the wireless only and resolves correctly. Since you have two diff subnets it should just in theory work.

Btw, I tried to leave an empty gateway for the Lan connection with the server, but then
I can't automatically get the gateway for the server

Is pc 1 only for the camera, and does your router support vlans? Why does the drawing have two connections to the switch? EDIT: also does the server get internet or is it strictly intranet?

Yes, PC1 is only for the cameras and can be configured with 162.16.0.10 or 167.200.210.133, both works.
The router is a Mikrotik Routerboard 1100, I'm not sure, but probably supports vlan.
The two connections are one for internet and cameras, the router is probably separating the traffic.
Yes, the server receives internet and cameras, but the internet is not the same of the PC2 connection.

Sorry been busy, I wanted to let you know though that this is starting to get over my head. I do not know the perfect option you should use so I don't want to start suggesting things that would inadvertently mess up your CAM server. You might want to try to hit up a forum specific to networking questions that would know better. From what I can gather it has to do with your subnets but they seem like they are in order. I'm currently studying this stuff at the moment for the Network+, but your issue is confusing me for some reason.

No problem man, appreciate your help so far.
The problem persists, I really don't want to put another computer just to browse the internet.
In fact, this is a ridiculous situation, because windows and programs can do almost anything in a computer
but I can't easily manage two connections -.-

Maybe I'm not using the route add -p correctly
All I need is to make windows understand that only the surveilance client needs to connect to that specific gateway in the LAN, the rest goes to the internet gateway on the WiFi

I will try to make other experiments, but any other idea would be good too.

Any reason to have Internet IPs for the cameras and the server?

In cmd:

route print |clip

It will not print anything, paste (CTRL+V) here after running it (or just "route print" and copy-paste manually).

Anyway, try setting the gateway metric for the wireless lower than that of the wired on your PC (the command will show the value, possibly 10 for wired), so that it is preferred. Also, since there is only a switch in between server and your PC, you don't even need a default gateway for the wired connection.

(Do you have any DHCP within the network? What IP does your wired connection get if so? If your cameras and server aren't being connected to from the Internet, then I have no idea why they were given those network IDs.)

HI, sorry for my delayed answer.

I'm happy to say that I was able to accomplish my objective.
The server apparently has no DHCP, cause if I don't manually input the IP, mask and gateway It does not
recognizes the connection. So I set the values manually and let the WiFi get the configs automatically.

The configuration I used is this, on LAN, for the cameras:

IP: 167.200.210.134
Mask: 255.255.0.0
Gateway: 167.200.210.125

I'm assuming it was a problem with the Subnet Mask, not sure.

When the cameras worked fine, I connected the WiFI, and boom, it worked, both, at the same time.

Who knows....

Glad you got it resolved thought you had tried getting stuff manually, whoops. It's always the small things.
