Why are you editing the registry? That is a dangerous way to accomplish these tasks.

I am not using anything in or contained in the registry. My search indexing service doe not work I have tried many ways to get it to index without success. It would help if someone would advise me.

The Windows Search Service is starting up and attempting to remove the old search index {Reason: User Requested}.

I have learned that the windows.EDB index holding file in program data can be deleted. When I try to delete so that it will rebuild it tell me I cannot access it..security on file is fine but Win 7 tells me it is open in search..yes in search. File size is 42K

SOLVED

This is how:
Click Start and type: features in the Start Search box.
2) Click on “Turn Windows Features on or off” and open it.
3) Uncheck the box in front of Windows Search.
4) Restart the machine.
5) Delete the folder: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search.

6) Then repeat step 1) and 2).
7) Re-check the box in front of Windows Search.
8) Restart the machine again.
Indexing advanced then rebuild
