I have this problem since I installed W7 x64 build 7000
My system is Gigabyte Ga P35-DS3
Intel Core Duo E6300
Kingston 1GB 800Mhz
Gigabyte GeForce 8600GT
SATA HDD 250 GB

My suppose is that it's either the USB controller or the HPET function. When I start my computer with the USB Controller Disabled I don't get a BSOD,but when it's enabled I get it.I also use an USB modem, but I don't think it's causing any problems as I tested it on another computer. Also the VGA and RAM are tested and they are good. The settings in BIOS are good,HPET is enabled by the way. I heard that the problem might have been the SB on MB,when overheating, but I mounted a fan there, and nothing. The problem still persists. The only way for this computer to not get a BSOD is to disable the USB Contr, but without it I don't have an internet access so it's not an option.

It may not be the USB modem, but the drivers used for it. Have you tried removing it or disabling it and booting?

If disabling the modem doesn't help, the logical next step would be to reinstall the USB drivers. Are you using the W7 supplied chipset drivers, or the motherboard's?

During the Vista Beta, I had a PCI modem that would always cause a BSOD if enabled during boot. If I wanted to use it, I had to enable it after boot-up. Modem worked fine otherwise.

I am using the W7 supplied drivers and I didn't disabled the usb modem yet.As I stated before, I used this modem on another configuration and there was no problem.I used it for at least 6 months and there was no problem. But I will try to update the drivers if there is an update.
Thanks
