Hello All... Really hoping someone can help me! Last month I purchased a Samsung nf210 netbook which obviously come with windows 7 starter. As part of the package I got windows 7 home premium anytime upgrade. Anyway, came home, ran the netbook for the 1st time, followed the on screen instructions and when it was all set did the anytime upgrade! Well.... 1st it told me that the copy of windows was invalid so I re-entered the key again, still no joy, restarted the netbook and when it started it came up as windows home premium so I thought it was sorted. But I have had nothing but problems with it since then. Keeps saying its invalid copy of windows, problems with updates, I have activated the copy of windows by phone and that was all good. Could the problem be that I didn't install all the updates on the netbook before I did the upgrade as I keep reading now that you should make sure its all up to date before you do the upgrade, didn't know that at the time. Been to the shop to see if they can help but because I didn't take out there Whatever Happens cover it will cost me £90 just for them to look at it. I am hoping someone here can give me an idea of what would be best to do.
Thanks, Pattie

Hellop pattiecake, welcome to Seven Forums!

Perhaps you could use a H Premium installation DVD to do a complete clean install using the correct H Premium activation key, have a look at this tutorial linked below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Then have a look at this one for additional useful information.

Hi Bare Foot Kid and thanks for your reply. As I am quite new to this I was wondering if just using the Samsung system media recovery disc which says "Windows 7 starter for small pcs" would be the easiest and least complicated option for me. I am quite happy to be using the windows 7 starter just to get it back to working properly. Again all thoughts would be appreciated.... Pattie

Did you insert the Anytime Upgrade Key at Computer>Properties activation link? What does it say there now?

The shop wants your money even though you are already covered for a year by Samsung for parts and tech support, so I would call them to sort out anything MS activation phone agents cannot.

Hi, I did the upgrade through the anytime upgrade link. System is showing Windows 7 Home Premium and it is showing as activated.. Its has just gone to blue screen with bad-pool-header in caps! ??????? Its is now doing a system file check! HELP....

Hi, I have looked at this now. Sorry to be such a novice but if I do the complete restore this will take it back to how it was when I brought it home after purchasing it? I never did a back up at the start so it says "computer initial status" ....

Thanks again all, I did the restore and everything worked fine on the windows 7 starter, no problems at all. I forgot to mention in my original message that I had upgraded the memory from 1gb up to 2gb. Last night when I restored the netbook back to new I downgraded the memory back to 1gb and when everything was set as I said it was all great. I did all the updates that needed doing and then changed it again over to the 2gb and everything was still good no problems at all. It was after all this and all the updates were done that I did the anytime upgrade again from starter to home premium, When it was all on and working I played around for half an hour loading music and stuff back on and everything started to go wrong again, but how do I find out if its windows or the memory upgrade that is causing all of these problems. Should I have upgraded windows before the ram? I have read that 1gb is ok to run all the versions of windows 7. Again your advice will be muchly appreciated. Pattie

Take out the extra RAM and run it for awhile to see the difference. Then put the RAM back in a test it to make sure the RAM or one of the slots isn't bad.

Check the logs at the time the problem occurs, as well as other System Resources, following these tips for Troubleshooting Win7

Its just one slot. The computer has said hardware faults have been detected.

Then run the RAM Test with Memtest86+, and the HD Diagnostics using maker's extended CD scan.

You may need to return the RAM upgrade. Is it spec'd correctly? What are the exact specs for the RAM you bought?

I exchanged the 2gb for the 1gb and it seems to be working great now, all updates are installed which I couldnt do before. Seems it could have been a faulty upgrade. I was assured by the man in pc world that this was the one that I needed, he was a 100% certain! Well fingers crossed all is sorted now. Thank you for all of your help.....
