I did a factory reset on my wife's Acer Aspire One netbook using the reset in the start menu. First problem was it said the administrator account was disabled and the user account had a name and password for some reason and I say that because it was never set up with one. I got past that and added another administrator account. Well when you log in it goes right to installing cleanup 36/37 and sits there not doing anything else. It did this once before and some how was bypassed but I want it done right this time. So far it has been on 36 for 2 days. Why is it doing this and how can I get it to go past to 37 and finish?

Try running Acer eRecovery from boot using the hotkey: Acer Support Restoring a system to factory load

If it fails then use the Recovery Disks which should have been made when setting up your computer, or as a backup when running eRecovery from Win7.

If these are no longer avaialble, you have the options to order Recovery disks from Acer, or use a Win7 installation DVD to clean reinstall without the factory bloatware using the Product Key on COA sticker: Reinstalling Windows 7

Thank you but there is not DVD slot it is a netbook and I have no external drives for it

Will the Windows 7 Home Premium work on hers since hers has 7 Starter?

Only the version on the COA sticker will activate. You will have to find a Starter ISO. We only have access to Home Premium and up, and the installer will only unlock Basic and up.

If the Acer is within a year of purchase and still has free Tech Support I would contact them to ask how they supply Recovery media, have them walk you through completing Recovery.

Acer sometimes will send free Recovery media within 120 days of purchase.

It did the reset it is just for some reason stuck at 36 out of 37 on the clean up.... Why it stops there I have no clue and how to get it past it I do not know ether

Acer might know a workaround for this but the general fix for failed Recovery is trying to run it again from its partition, then boot Recovery Media which is best to have available as a backup since Recovery can fail.

You can probably find a Win7 Starter ISO torrent but be sure to read the listings and comments closely to make sure there is no activation crack so you can use the Product Key on the COA sticker.

What about unlocking the versions with the eicfg removal tool on the above mentioned home premium, provided it's a 32 bit disc.

Mine has all versions, including starter.

Worth a try. I didn't see Starter when I booted my all-versions.

Thanks Derek.
