You may have to change your bios. On a dell computer hit f12 repeatedly upon boot up. Go to boot up menu and change it to boot from CD. Hoepfully it will work then. f12 is for most computers and Dell, if it does not work on yours look it up in google or in your manual

Is this an Acer branded Upgrade disk? What tutorial "steps" are you working from?

See if you can boot from the upgrade disk as Richard suggests.

If so it may be the MS WIn7 Upgrade install disk and you can get a clean install without the Acer bloatware.

I thought I read they put that bloatware and other apps/drivers on a second disk which isn't needed since the Win7 installer has all the drivers you need, followed by Windows Updates with newer ones.

Check also your Acer model's product download page for other drivers and software.

Same problem with Acer 4810T

After 2 weeks of dealing with Acer Tech Support, I still can't get the Win7 Upgrade see the DVD drive. DVD drive worked fine with Vista.
Acer support site only offers the Chipset driver update. Acer Tech Support had me restore my system back to factory config with Vista.
The upgrade Acer DVD stops on 2nd of 3 steps. On most recent attempt, I bypassed using Acer Upgrade DVD and loaded Win7 Upgrade DVD.
Still same problem.
On my last call (lost counjt after 15th), tech tells me to try a fresh install of Win7 without loading Vista!!!
Does anyone how to solve this problem?
Thanks,

The Win7 DVD provided with Acer Upgrade kit can indeed be booted for the cleanest possible install, Custom using Advanced drive tools to format the HD first.

Back up your files and gather your program installers/disks first.

The drivers/apps CD hasn't even been needed on our Upgrades, although if you have any favorite apps or missing drivers after install you can find them on that CD, or on the Acer Support Downloads page for your model.

Try booting from the DVD to Custom install and let us know what happens exactly.

Can I do a clean install of Win7 using Upgrade DVD?

Can a clean install of OS be made from an upgrade DVD?

Yes, the booted DVD scans the Hard Drive and sees Vista before formatting to allow use of an Upgrade Key.

Even on a pre-formatted or new HD, an upgrade version can be used if you have a qualifying Vista/XP. It doesn't have to be installed. There are workarounds for this.

For several Acer Upgrade Kits here, we just booted from the Win7 DVD, formatted and installed. It took the Upgrade key on the packaging with no problem.

Thanks. Found the problem with DVD

It looks like Acer 4810T requires a BIOS upgrade (to V1.31 and not 2.31) to solve the DVD detect. Intel Chipset driver (update) cause repeat error message in regards to drive 0.
Now that I have DVD working again, I will take your advice on clean install with Win7.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Did you consult Acer about this? Those BIOS upgrades are all since Win7 release so likely needed. How did you determine not to go with latest?

Thanks,

V2.30 and V2.31 are for the "special edition" 2009...
V1.30 and V1.31 are for normal Aspire 4810T, TG, TZ, TZG Timeline.

My question is:

I've got the V1.28 bios version. I've tried to install the both V1.3 versions but it tells me it is not made for mine...luckily it stops the install by itself, if it sees wrong.

Did someone succeed this Bios V1.3 install before i get in touch with the support?

Thank you!

NEW version of the JM41 Bios V1.30 and V1.31 had been put yesterday (Jan 27, 2010) on Acer site!!

Looks the 2009 versions V1.30 and V1.31 were not working properly and was upgrading from JM41 to AA, instead Both JM41 bios firmware.

As usual be careful when upgrading your Bios options!:)

WinTel camp still does not get it

I tried to get MS to make sure Windows Vista introduction was customer friendly. Years later, it looks like MS and partners still do not understand concept of "customer friendly". I noted I gave up on Acer and MS.
Time to look at Apple.

I'm not taking the cause for Acer but at least they did realise those drivers were wrong...

I've got home premium x64 and to replace "bitlocker" on Pro & Ultimate they did insert a little software call "MyWinLocker"... Others are also here to make it easy & handy with Win7, like:
"Grid Vista", "ePower management", "eBackup Manager"...and a huge gaming zone.

Humm well, i almost think after few tweaks i can make a Home premium as the Professional version...!
I simply Like Win7 at the moment (and tested of some of those RC1 since few month), because it does have no conflicts on this machine...
