Hi,

My laptop config is as follows:

Win7 32 Ultimate on Acer Aspire 4730z
2GB Ram,
2.2 Ghz Dual Core...and 320 GB Space

I want to install windows 7 64 bit ultimate version on my laptop which currently has 32 bit win 7 ultimate version. Is it possible to install 64 bit ultimate version as an upgrade ?

I want to use adobe video editing software on my latpop. So, I recently purchased additional 2 GB Ram for my laptop. I came to know that 64 bit version windows operating system uses Ram and other resources efficiently and can perform faster. So, I am looking for guidance for installing windows 7 ultimate 64 bit edition on my laptop with 32 bit edition.

Anyone please guide me... I know how to custom install windows 7 but never upgraded from 32 bit ultimate to 64 bit ultimate. Please let me know if this is possible without formatting the laptop. Because, I do not want to lose the installed programs.

Thanks in advance.

Hello jsk123 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to "upgrade" from a 32-bit version of Windows 7 to a 64-bit version. You'd have to do a clean install. You'd also have to reinstall your programs because right now they're all configured to run on a 32-bit system.

This previous Seven Forums thread gives some additional information and may help you:

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

One way round your problem would be to dual-boot Windows 7 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit.

Obviously, you would need to partition your drive and have a genuine copy of Windows 7 64-bit and you would need to reinstall any programs you want to use with it.

As marsimar stated, you cannot upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. It has to be a clean install.
