Hello,

I am having troubles trying to reinstall windows 7 64bit Ultimate on my machine. I currently am running win7 on and want to reinstall. I have booted from CD.

The setup to even choose the language and Keyboard setting takes forever to load, and also when it loads into setup windows screen. This is not my main problem.

The main problem i am getting is that i want to format the drive my OS is installed on at the moment it takes for ever to do this then ends up saying failed to format hard drive and has an error code. It will not let me format the hard drive at all only delete the partition that it is on.

It is really fustrating me and cant work out why it is doing this.

Maybe someone has come accross this problem before and have worked it out and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this and possibly also make the startup for the setup faster as it takes several minutes just to get the the language and terms and conditions page.

Please let me know if possible.

Thanks
Regards
Justin

Hello Justin, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Have a look at this tutorial produced by Bare Foot Kid recently:

Hello justin105, welcome to Seven Forums!

Perhaps using diskpart to run the clean command to over-write the MBR before the install starts will help as a start, have a look at steps number 9 and 10 in this tutorial at the link above, also there's a lot of other, useful information in the tutorial and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? If so, confirm the ISO integrity and burn another at 4x speed using ImgBurn.

Did you try deleting the partition first, then creating new one(s) and formatting?

Test your HD using maker's HD Diagnostic extended bootable CD scan. Then run Disk Check with /r switch from DVD Repair Command Line.

Try installing using USB flash stick using Ultra ISO: on File tab select Open DVD or Open ISO, on Bootable tab select Write Disk Image, Format, Write.

(Are you getting all this down, Barefoot? ;))

Reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS While in BIOS setup, set SATA controller to AHCI first to try install, then IDE if necessary.

Test your RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Ok no luck: error states—failed to format selected partitions. 77(Error 0x80070057)

any ideas??
