For the last three Windows versions I have been able put a folder on the desktop and make entries temp or permanent, I could delete individual entries.I used it for example URLs, Instructions regarding apps, the tracking number of mail of mail or packages and when I closed the folder a popup asked it I wanted to Save,or not save etc, and I could Save or not the entry then close the folder.and the one action was Save or not Save, Close the folder and that was it.
The folder remained on the desktop.I could reopen the folder with one click and all info was thereand

Now in Windows, I can't do that, I can put the Text Doc,or sticky notes on and make entries however when I close it and select save, I must go through all the steps clicking to save the entry to a folder in the Library, and if thats done then to open I must locate the folder to open it. and no was to type or delete directly in that folder.

Is there any way to put a folder on the desktop which I can open or close, make or delete entries then close the folder with no more than the popup"Save or Not Save, and not go through the mandatory Save to a folder in Library?

Thanks in advance
oldad

Hello oldad, welcome to Seven Forums!

I do all that, but mine are just on the desktop, they aren't in the "Library" I haven't started using the Libraries at all yet.

I guess I'm just hard headed.

Appreciate this fast reply Bare Foot,

I don't understand your "I do it all the time, etc"

Do You mean you have a folder on your desktop you can open and close and make entries and when you close you get only get Save, yes or No and the folder remains on your desktop with all the info you have entered in the folder?

Would appreciate how to do this in win 7. When I had Win5,95,98,XP I had no prolem doing this but Win 7 throws me.
Regards
oldad

Yes, I'm sorry I was so cryptic (people tell me that all the time :o ) yes I do have a file(s) on my desktop that I add stuff to all the time and delete out of also and I don't even get "save prompts" from them, as I said though, I don't use Libraries at all.

Right click on the desktop > New > Text document. That will put a Notepad on your desktop which you can give any name (rename). It will stay there and always close asking you whether you want to save what you just changed - that's all. If you want to be fancy, name it anything.LOG (LOG must be caps). Then when you open it first time, put .LOG as your first entry. This will now timestamp every entry you make.

Thanks Barefoot ,I now have what I needed.

And now for whs,
WHS , I thank you very much for that info as I would have sworn that I try the the text doc but got the same result of save to folder,etc,etc..

Seems now that I fouled up somewhere along the line but at my age I am entitled to several goofs per day and it appears that I have used up several weeks worth.

I just not put the Text docback on the desktop and tried it out (again?) and it worked just like my "stuff" in win 95,98,and win XP
I moved all my old stuff saved on a cd to the text doc and that also worked

So again thanks
