Solved Help upgrading to win7 64-bit with new MB, RAM, Processor.

Hi everyone. Thanks for looking to help. I'm looking to upgrade some of the hardware on my rig. I already have everything i wanted (new MB, RAM, processor) but the win7 64-bit edition. I'm having a hard time to decide which one to buy. I was reading through some of the comments on the home premium (full) system builder and to me, it looked like people were saying that windows 7 OSs bind to whatever hardware you currently have installed, and you cannot simply upgrade to 64 bit. I hope I am wrong. I do not want to have to buy a new HDD. Anyways hoping to build it tomorrow and hopefully i will have an answer to this so i can go buy the new OS. Thanks for all your help!

You can install either 32- or 64-bit with each license but only one or the other. Then you can reinstall or change back and forth between bit versions as often as you want.

With Builder's OEM it is locked to the first mobo installed upon, with retail Full or Upgrade it can migrate as often as you want to wherever you want - as long as for Upgrade there is a qualifying XP or Vista which came preinstalled on the target machine, or a retail copy of either you keep on hand even though it doesn't need to be installed to Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version.

Hey thanks for the reply. I was able to install windows 7 64bit no problem. Now however i have other headaches going on with the machine . Error codes. blah

Did you do your Windows Updates including all of the optional Updates to get the latest drivers? Are there any drivers missing in Device Manager.
