Help! Usb-serial driver

HI! Please please please could someone help...

We've just received our new Acer PC - has Win 7 Professional (32 bit) installed on it - we've upgraded to Prof as we need the XP bit to run our navigation software (MaxSea) which I've not even got as far as loading because I sinply cannot seem to load/locate the correct driver for our Radio Shack USB-Serial (RS232) adapter for our GPS. It was so easy in Win XP... but Win 7 is rather different, and I'm not sure if it's me or if it's Win 7!!

I've tried the Prolific site as well as usbfirewire.com, I'm pretty sure I have the right driver, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong when I'm installing it....

Hi indigo356,welcome to the forums, have a look at these drivers USB Adapter USB Serial Adapter Driver Page and if you have the original driver disc ,install them in compatibility mode http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html the Vista drivers will work on win7 in compat mode

Hi Pebbly! Thanks a million for the assistance... after 4 hours of fiddling around with various downloads and XP compatible configurations, we decided that purchasing a much newer USB-Serial adapter was the only answer as I'd read that the Radioshack driver was no longer supported and that there were no further upgrades. It was not Win 7 compliant, but the Vista driver was accepted by Win 7 Pro and the GPS now works like a charm! Fingers crossed that Win 7 "behaves" as it's pretty neat (compared to XP!)...
