Really appreciate any help here...
My laptop was running XP until one day I decided to give Windows 7 a try, as usual, I backed up XP using Norton GHOST before doing a custom(fresh) Windows 7 installation.
Explored a bit with Windows 7, for some compatibility issue, I would like to revert back to XP but keep Windows 7 as a sandbox environment, googling and testing for a few days and now I'm stuck here and seeking for help....
Current situation:
1. Windows 7 boot loader to boot a (VHD Windows 7) along with the XP installation.
2. the Windows 7 VHD is restored to my latest Windows 7 GHOST image which was created when the Windows 7 actually sitting in my first HDD partition(Drive C)
3. the problem is that when I boot the Windows 7 VHD, it will forever stuck in the stage of "preparing the desktop", luckily I can still press Alt+Crtl+Delete to call up the taskmgr and subsequently run a "Command Prompt", then I could see that:
- C is assigned to the first partition which hosts my XP installation
- D:, E: correctly as my DATA drives
- F: is assigned to the Windows 7 VHD
that's the why I can't get my destop showing up...
Any idea I can get the VHD windows assigned with C?
What I have tried:
i. diskpart to re-assign the drive letter - not working - because the partition C is booting & system partition, can not assign or remove drive letter
ii. boot the Windows 7 DVD and repair the VHD windows 7 - not working - however, when I can check the BCD store by "bcdedit /v", the result is correct
