I am pulling my hair out on this one
I set this server up 7 years ago with Advanced Server 2000. One of the only versions of windows that had a native drive mirror option since NT4. Anyways, There is no domain controller just a simple workgroup. I created local accounts on the file server that matched the accounts on the workstations (username/password) and added the users in the permissions on the shared folde and then mapped the drives on the corresponding workstations. Pretty straight forward and basic. Has been working fine for 7 years. Now I upgrade a workstation to a new PC running win 7 ultimate, ran the easy migration and everything seemed fine. EXCEPT it wont connect to the mapped drive. I have tried everything. Tried changing the credentials to the server account, local account, server administrator. I even tried dos "net use". Is there something with win7 I am missing with how the credentials work with older versions on windows?
