Help win 7 x64 running extremely slow suddenly.

I have reported this issue on my W7 x64 installation in another thread. Mine manifests after the computer hasn't been rebooted for several days, usually 4-6 in my case. Either upon awaking from sleep or in the middle of using it, Windows will go sluggish and then become unusable.

I'm using about 5 or 6 gig of my 32 gig so lack of memory is not the problem. When I was able to see the task manager, I didn't see any heavy processes.

I had been using Chrome with about 40 tabs open and Flash happened to die.

I am also using Avast.

Any suggestions on how to tweak Avast or Indexing? I looked at tweaking Indexing but didn't find anything the user could set. I don't have Avast set to do any regular scans. Will have to check the drive light next time but i didn't heard any drive access sounds.

Same issue. I have a 1 month old system. Started after trying to wake up computer from sleep mode.
I barely access the web on this machine. Checked my Gmail once or twice. That's it. So no questionable surfing or downloading.

System restore always fails after reboot. Tells me to try again, or try a different restore point (done that).

Task manager (when I can open it) shows performance is all clear. System runs great in safe mode.
Please help if you have any advice at all.

I have had this same problem happen to me about three times now and each time my only solution has been to reinstall. It seems as though this occurs around every three weeks to a month, at first I thought it was an issue with Windows updates not installing correctly but the problem keeps rearing its head even now I have completely turned Windows updates off. I am experiencing the solid hard drive light that some users talk about but I get around 25-30 seconds of normal performance before the light turns solid and everything slows down, however if I boot in safe mode then performance stays normal.

It seems as though some part of a startup process is failing and causing the hardrive to hang. I don't know if anyone else who is having this problem has the same symptoms but it seems that when I (finally) load a program and start using features these features will respond normally as they have already been loaded into RAM and its only the inital load from the drive that seems to cause issues. A good example of this is that I can play MW2 perfectly at 60fps, it just takes almost the length of the match to load the map and join the game.

If anyone has any insight into the root or causeality of this problem then help would be much appreciated: this is driving me crazy!

Hi iam new here, i found a solution about this, i have the same problem in windows 7 x64 ultimate, that suddenly runs slow... here's what i did,

go to computer, right click the hard drive where your windows 7 is installed,

choose: properties -> Tools-> "Error Checking" menu, click "Check now..."

there's a pop up "check disk options" check the two "check obx" then press "Start"

restart your computer, then it will perform a scan on your hard drive it may take a while...

after its finish, your Windows 7 x64 ultimate will run smooth again just like mine..

i hope it helps.
