[HELP] Windows 7 boot problem

Hey there I am in a serious spot of bother, basically what it is I had a dual boot setup my secondary OS was Linux mint I never used it but because of the broadcom driver issue I just right now was looking in my patroons and noticed a partion that was not my windows 7 OS (c: drive) or my recovery drive, so I assumed it was Linux mint it was big enough can't remember the exact size though sorry.

Well stupid me I deleted that partion now when I turn my laptop on it fails to boot I think the partion I deleted was to do with the dualboot screen because when I boot up I get a black screen and some text saying

error: no such partion.
grub rescue>

I can remember the dual boot screen said something grub on it, honestly anybody that can help me boot windows 7 again is a life saver, please help me or ask somebody you think will know to help me, thanks a lot.

I've done the same thing. Had to repair the Master Boot Record. Check out this tutorial:

Thanks a lot that link will help me out if I ever install Linux again and want to get rid of the grub boot which is why I deleted this partion in the first place.

I am now currently installing windows vista from my recovery disk, yes I said windows vista don't be confused I was using windows 7 before but I didn't have that recovery disk if you understand so I've kinda sorted the initial situation out but thanks anyways for your quick reply and link.

Ps. I see that you have tux in your sig do you happen to use Linux?

I currently run Linux Mint 10 (Julia) on 2 machines, Windows 7 x64 on 2 machines and OS X 10.5x (Leopard) on my aging and packed away G3 PowerBook.

Lol I clicked the link, I don't have the privellages to even look, probably because I just joined. Not to be a pain but have you ever encountered the broadcom driver issues? That's the main reason I havn't used linux because I couldn't use wireless.
Don't feel rushed to reply just whenever you have time thanks.

Hmm. May have to be a member of that particular social group in order to view its content. I don't know. :huh:

I have personally never had any problems with Linux Broadcom support. However, I have had to plug into a hard wired network before I can download the additional Broadcom drivers. After that, no problems.

Ok no bother just wondered incase you knew of any solutions that worked, I've tried before to download them but they just don't install properly darn things

Hello davey1694, welcome to Seven Forums!


You may need to do a wipe of the HDD to completely over-write the Grub boot loader as it has been known to cause serious issues with a Windows clean install have a look through the information below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

   Information

1) To rule out HDD Master Boot Record format errors, boot the Windows 7 installation media to diskpart and run the clean command, it takes only seconds to complete; once the clean finishes, exit diskpart and use the Windows 7 installer to create and format a single 100GB partition for the installation.

If that doesn't work, after another clean, use diskpart to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to see if that works, use Step Two #2 in the SSD/HDD tutorial for reference.

:info:You can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

2) If you have ever had Linux installed to the HDD in any way, a simple clean command will not over-write the Grub boot-loader, you must use the full clean all command to completely over-write the Grub loader so Windows will install.

hi guys, i think i have almost the same problems with davey1694, only just when i starts on my laptop, the screen appears as error: unknown systemfile. and under it, a grub rescue command. is it the same MBR tutorial that bug67 gives to solve my problem? would you guys please help me to solve this problem because i am really a newcomer here and my english wasn't good enough but i really hope all of you could understand me. thanks..
