I had a problem with flat mates using my pc so I used Brink's tutorial on how to ask for a user name and password on start up.
I've had this pc a week and to my knowledge I have not set up a password or username. I automatcally thought it would give me an option to create theese on restart.

DOH.

Can you please be very specific in describing what you're asking, or are you just making a statement.

No I didn't want to see Owner or shared log ins when windows starts. I wanted total control over who uses the pc. So Brink gave me a tutorial so as you had to log on with a user name and password before windows would start.
I downloaded the reg files from this:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/61650-log-user-name-password.html?ltr=L

This worked great. Big problem was I thought it would give me the option to choose a username and password as i've had the pc a week and not set any up yet. so now I need your held to work out how to get back in if possible.

Hello Bungo,

Instead of selecting a user name, you would type in the user name that you wanted to log in as instead with this and enter the password.

If you wanted to undo this and go back to selecting a user icon and entering it's password (if it has one), then you would just need to do step 2 in OPTION ONE at the link in your post.

Hi Brink,
  • Got 5 mins before head off to work. I don,t have a password or user name, are you saying to forget the user name box and type in the user name that I wanted to use in the Password box?
  • I'll try this when I get in and let you know how I got on.
  • Cheers.

Bungo,

All user accounts on a computer have a user name.

You would type in the actual user name for the user account that you want to log on as into the "User name" box. Next, since you do not have a password, leave the "password" box empty. Afterwards, click on the arrow to log on.

You really should create a password for your user account though to help prevent others from logging into your user account.

If I type a user name in the user name box then leave the password empty click on the arrow to log in and it says inncorrect user name or password.
Underneath this there is a line that says 'reset password'
Click on that and it says 'NO DRIVE'
This feature requires removable media such as a floppy disc or USB flash drive and try again.
When I insert an empty flash drive it says 'Welcome to password reset wizard'
When I click next it doesn't recognise my flash drive and asks me to insert the Password Reset Disk, which I dont have.
Any other ideas?

How are you logging into your computer currently?

Are you able to create or change the password for your user account so that you can enter it at log on?

UREKA

Just went back to basics and typed in Owner as user name, nothing in Password as you said and I'm 'IN LIKE FLYNN'.

Thanks Brink as they say in France your Le Mutts Nutts.

You're most welcome Bungo. I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted. :)

It sounds like this was a default account that the OEM setup for the store bought computer.
