Anytime my laptop connects to the Internet, I get this message: "Windows has encountered a critical error and will shut down automatically in one minute. Please save your work now." I tried using the shutdown -a command, as well as disabling automatic shutdown in advanced boot options, but it still occurs. The computer works just fine as long as it doesn't connect to the Internet. As soon as I let it connect, within 30 seconds it gives me that error.

Like I said, I've tried disabling the automatic shutdown but it doesn't work. I've run antivirus programs (SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes) and they have found nothing. Please help! I'd rather not have to reinstall my whole system if I can help it.

I ran sfc.exe /scannow and it did indicate it found problems and repaired them, and directed me to a rather lengthy log it generated (I can post it here if needed; it's just really long) and asked me to restart. I restarted and let it connect to the Internet, and within a few seconds the same error appeared.

Ran MalwareBytes, Super Anti-Spyware, and the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool. All came up empty. Tried the Driver Verifier tool, also didn't seem to find anything. Tried connecting to the Internet with and without any sort of Antivirus running, and still got the same error message within seconds of connecting.

Thanks in advance for your help!

A couple of things:
One -- Please help us to better help you ( and especially in this case) by filling out your system specs.
Two--remove all of your anti-spyware, anti-virus software, firewall software and only use Microsoft Security Essentials until this problem is resolved.
Three -- keep running SFC /scannow until sfc reports that no integrity violations were found.
Four--the tutorial on sfc will show you how to view the output of sfc.
Five--personally I always delete the sfc log file first, otherwise you've got piles of stuff in there. \windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log
To delete this file I go to an elevated command prompt, navigate to the log file and the use the DEL command to delete the file.

Now here are some links and additional info for the points above.

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS

In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.

Excellent post Karlsnooks, with one note. Sometimes the SFC cannot fix all, so better to run it a few times, until it stops fixing the errors.

Rep given.

Rich,
I guess I should have used bold or color.

From my post:
