Help : Windows7x64Ultimate(Wifi)+Windows7x32(Lan) Homegroups & Sharing

Right I am gong bonkers so please help so far :
PC1 = x64 Windows7Ultimate Wifi
PC2 = x32 Windows7Home LAN
Checked so far as ok :

•IPv6 is set to on on both the systems' adapters.
•HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Parameters is set to 0 on both maschines
•Firewall is on using windows and microsoftsecurity essentials
•Password for network is identical on both machine
•Sharing on
•Both PCs are discoverable
•Peer Networking Grouping in services.msc is started and running on both machines
•PNRP Machine Name Publication Service in services.msc is also running on both machines and on.
•Workgroup on both PCs the same named: 'MYGROUP'
Both PCs see each other so I see PC1x64 and PC2x32 in both the PCs network neighbourhoods.

Now here's the details which I am not too sure about :

When accessing PC2x32 from PC1x64 the system says it can access PC1 as IPv6 is not set on...which it is.

When trying to access PC1x64 from PC2x32W7 windows respond with Network Error:
Check the spelling of the name.Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network (*THIS IS A CLUE I GUESS*). To try and identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose. Error Code 0x80070035 The Network path was not found.

When detecting problems in remote host connectivity the result is :

file and print sharing resource (PC1x64) is online but isn;t responding to connection attempts.

The other puzzle is in control panel>Network and Sharing>Connect to Network, the network on PC2x32 is connected to a network named 'Network' on the home network.
PC1x64 is connected to a network named 'WifiNet' which is the Wifi Network.

Choosing PC2x32 in it's own network 'LanNet' shows both PC's and PC2x32 is of course accessible and can see all the selected shared folders and accessible.
Choosing PC1x64 in it's own network 'LanNet' or choosing PC2x32 from the PC1x64 will result in a message again relaying IPv6 is not running again it is in RegEdit, Network Adapter Properties.

Again all are set to sharing, same network password, all visible and can see icons in both Network Groups. The Network names are not the same name and I can not seem to change them as the wifi network has to be on the wifi called WifiNet.

I know I am missing something but this is absolutely bonkers and driving me nuts.

On the Win7x32 Machine I have even tried setting up a user account called PC2x64 with again the same password (lets say 12345) but still no good....

Previously on PC2x32 I had XP and all was accessible from PC1x64 but PC2x32XP could never see PC1x64Win7...this shouts to me a Windows7 issue.

I am sobbing here and know I will laugh uncontrollably when the solution is presented.

It is worth noticed I had uninstalled ZoneAlarms from PC1x64.

PLEASE PLEASE Help me.

Thank you

Hi ZigZag

No particular reason. Just windows7x64 keeps asking for it. It was already enabled so I read through a load of threads and extracted what was relevant to my setup.

As an update I have managed to successfully access PC2x32 from the PC1x64 machine which is really all I need.

However trying to access the PC1x64 from the PC2x32 machine is still throwing up the error:

When trying to access PC1x64 from PC2x32W7 windows respond with Network Error:
Quote:

When detecting problems in remote host connectivity the result is :

Quote:

Are you suggesting to disable the IPv6 despite the nagging from Windows7x64 to enable it?

Are you suggesting, regarding the link you've posted, that I don't need yhe homegroup to access the data from either PCs?

Could you please expand on what you are advising please?

I personally don't use Homegroup, manly because I have an XP PC on my Home network.
In the network and sharing center, for home network:
I have network discovery turned on.
File and printer sharing is also turned on.
Public folder sharing is turned off.
Use 128 bit encryption is selected.
and turn on password protected sharing is selected.

Homegroup is turned off and I never set one up in the first place. I share one folder on each PC and modify the sharing permissions. I give full access, read and write, to my user account and then remove the all users.

I know a fare bit about networking but not enough to even remotely call myself an expert. I have to wonder though if your router doesn't support IPV6 will this cause problems similar to what you are experiencing?

EDIT: Enabling or disabling IPV6 doesn't appear to have any effect on my network setup.

Ok appreciate the input alpha'.

I am reading into these posts that Homegroups is perhaps the wrong way to go.

Router must support it as one machine is accessing the other jsut not vice versa.

It's either a setting or permission issue....going to have to check the permissions on the x64 machine.

To be honest, I've never taken the time to set it up. I guess it depends on what you want to do. I have no need to share my documents, pictures, and music on all my PC's. Also the one XP box I have left doesn't support Homegroup anyway so I went with the Workgroup setup. I only ever share one folder on each PC so I can transfer files from one to the other. I just thought I would share my settings in case you wanted to try a different approach.

Yep all I really need is to share one folder on each PC to transfer the odd files between the rigs. Just saves hoping arouond the house transferring from one usb stick/drive to another. No biggy...just when you get something 1/2 working I get quizicle why the other half doesn't. I thought the only way to share on W7 was via homegroups.

Thanks for sharing :)
