The system restore if not seeing a full uninstall will simply revert the registry back before the installation. You want to be sure that the driver files themselves are removed as well as not simply left behind with no reg values or program that uses them.
The best option when you haven't run into a problem as a result of a bad install or incorrect version is running any uninstaller that may be the uninstall option or a file found in the program folder for removel. You wouldn't have to use the system restore but will still have to reboot however to make sure they are unloaded from ram.
