Hiya guys

I have recently discovered a blue screen when I shut down my machine, I am using windows 7, obviously :)

When I shut down it basically goes to the blue screen and the error message (or at least a part I can catch) says INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR. It then reboots after dumping physical memory and on reboot it performs a disk check on my internal additional hard drive.

I am sorry its all a bit vague is there a way of getting the error code so I can paste it here?

The only thing was, I had a Trojan but avg removed it and I now can't see what it was to see if this is what is making the BS error. I believe it could be virus related as chrome won't load, just shows a White page, all other browsers work fine - just need to make sure the virus is removed and system is back to normal :) (ps scanned with avg and superantispyware)

Thanks

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi -

All 7 dumps have the same bugcheck -

0xa0 = error occurred while handling a power IRP (I/O request packet). This is a power policy manager failure.

Disconnect any external devices.

BIOS looks old, but I can't say with any certainty that it is involved -
Code:
[font=lucida console]BiosVendor = Phoenix Technologies, LTD
BiosVersion = R01-A4
BiosReleaseDate = [COLOR=red]09/20/2007
[/COLOR]SystemManufacturer = Acer
SystemProductName = Aspire M1610
SystemFamily =
SystemVersion = R01-A4
SystemSKU =
BaseBoardManufacturer = Acer
BaseBoardProduct = F672CR
BaseBoardVersion = R01-A4[/font]

Check Acer Support for BIOS update - http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx

I see an old version of LogMeIn in the dumps. Update the app - https://secure.logmein.com/

If BSODs persist, run Driver Verifier - http://www.sysnative.com/0x1/Driver_Verifier.htm

It also could be unknown hardware failure.

So I need to upgrade the bios but unplug and external devices? I have a internal additional hard drive - maybe it's that?

So it doesn't look virus related then?

Thanks again for your help! There was an update for logmein yesterday, I think it failed...

My pleasure.

Why do you think you may be infected? It's difficult from this end to tell if infection is present. I'll inquire here to see what you can run.

I suggested removing external devices because of the power policy manager failure. I'm not sure if this is hardware failure or not.

Why did LogMeIn install fail? Check these areas for additional crash info -

1. WERCON -
START | type view | "View all Problem Reports" | 2x-click on line item for additional crash info

2. Reliability Monitor -
START | type perfmon /rel

3. Event Viewer -
START | type eventvwr.msc | Custom Views | Administrative Events

If not already done, I'd suggest that you run Malwarebytes. Instructions are from a Microsoft MVP, Security -

____________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, be sure Quick scan is selected, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, EXCEPT items in System Restore as shown in this sample:
    MBAM_SR.png
  • Click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See the Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Please post contents of that file in your next reply.
** Note **

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately
