Help with BSOD aftermath & Windows Mail (Vista Version) on Win7 x64

At this time,I'm Planning on doing a complete Window Mail Reinstate process (not trying theSFC procedure). Because I'm not able to Open my Windows 7 Reinstated Windows Mail Client how can I backup my Messages,Contacts, etc. before starting this Reinstatement process. If I don't Backup first I assume I would lose all my info. I've Tried using the SFC procedure several times without success.

Backgroundinfo:

( sorry, forthe long read):o I've attempted installing 2018-01 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4056894) two(2) times on my WifesPC. After each attempt after the Reboot to complete update, I ended up with a BSOD. As a result I rebooted &Started the offered "Start up Repair Process". After the Restore was completed, all functions seemed normal until noting that the Windows Mail was no longer running. Windows mail has been reinstated on this PC using the Forum's work-around method However, on my Win7x64 PC I've successfully installed the same MS update Without any issues to my Reinstated Windows Mail. I built both machines & they both use AMD processor & ASUS mobo's.(although, there are some differences in theHardware). The OS software on both PC'suses MS Retail X64

I've used the Reinstated Windows Mail Work-Around for several years now without the need to Ever run SFC. I've attempted to run the SFC repair noted in the Tutorial but I've not been able to get Windows Mail to Restart on My wife's Machine.

I solved the Windows Mail issue by using the latest (dated Iknow) tutorial to integrate Vista Mail with win7 x64. Much simpler than theTutorial I used a couple years ago.:)

As to why I'm having a BSOD resulting from the 2018-01Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4056894).I'll research that with a separate search/post.

Sorry for the long inane & convoluted post. In my case it happens because My brain cells become lonely being there's so few others to communicate with.:o

Thanks Window 7Forums:):)

Hi fastfade,

Was this the tutorial that you used? Windows Mail It was first posted back in March 2009 but shows in the yellow Tip box that its last update was August 2017. I'm glad to hear that you were able to sort out that problem.

As to your BSOD problem with KB4056894, that's being caused because of an incompatibility between it and your AMD CPU's.
MS (Microsoft) has for now, pulled that update and will re-release it when they refine it to make it compatible with AMD processors.

Here's some Forum threads on the issue:
An Update on AMD Processor Security for Spectre and Meltdown

Windows OS security update block for some AMD based devices

Is update KB4056894 necessary

January 4, 2018 - KB4056894 (Monthly Rollup) Windows 7

January 3, 2018 - KB4056897 (Security-only update) Windows 7

Google search for: AMD KB4056894

You're welcome,

Please look at lehnerus's post #2 for installation sequence. It would be best to have a backup image but in lieu of that system restore points should suffice. The image would be in case there are major problems.
