Hi people. Hope someone can assist me with this problem.

My laptop power pack got zapped by a power surge from lightning. The machine sat idle for about six weeks, and I switched it on yesterday. Everything seemed to be working just fine, until I tried to type some text.

The left shift key does nothing; the z key produces az; the x key produces sx; the c key produces dc; the v key produces fv, and the space bar does the enter function, as well as the space bar function.

Caps lock works, as does the right shift key, but the above typos happen the same as.

Tried to do the system restore, and it took me back to the 14th Feb, which is odd, because the machine was not working at that time. Tried two other restore points, but no go. Could not restore. The date and time are still showing 14th Feb, and the time will not update if I go online.

Am using my backup machine till I sort this issue out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try plugging a USB keyboard into the laptop and if all works well, then you will probably need a replacement keyboard from HP.
