Hey guys,

I'm hoping you can help me out. I'm trying to install Windows 7 on an Hp desktop that previously had Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on it.

After backing everything up, I followed all the instructions.. deleting the recovery partition, formatting the target drive, making sure only one HD is connected... and went with a clean install.

The install finished all the way into actually logging into Windows 7 before logging out and shutting down. On the reboot, it goes passed the Boot screen and hangs up with a black screen and a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner.

I tried to repair with the win 7 cd, and it detects it as installed with no disc errors or memory errors.

Any ideas?

These are his specs:

Hp Pavilion Media Center m1820n TV PC

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 Intel ViiV Processor Technology
Windows Vista Home Premium
3gigs of RAM
640 HD ( dual hard drives )
Nvidia Geoforce 7350LE graphics card.

Is the system using a real TV or some type of computer monitor. There has been some talk about problems being encountered with TVs. Can you change the type of connection?

This frequently happens when a tv tuner card or the graphics card has been outputted to a tv or projector. When the driver loads in final stages of install, it cannot find the alternate monitor and goes blank.

See if you can adjust it, or update your display adapter in Safe Mode.

Hey guys! Just woke up, and I see some great advice. i did forget to mention that he had it hooked up too a 51inch flat screen. He's lent his monitor out, so I'm going to grab his tower and try at it my place later.

I will relate how it goes!

I tried hitting F8 on start up, but got nowhere on the first try. I did not have the windows installation disc in. I tried it again with the disc in and managed to get into safemode, but it only brought up the Windows 7 installation prompts.

I tried downloading some windows 7 drivers so I could possibly pre-load them via USB, but i kept getting a " This file has no information about your hardware " every time i tried loading an nvidea driver / app.

Hes getting his original monitor back from a friend, so that will be round 3 i guess.
