Hi folks my name is Mike and I would like to run a quick question past your brains.
With the help of a wonderful member here I was able to re-install my windows 7 OS on my
dear old Sony Vaio in 2019 and it has been working perfectly. Recently though my Canon mg5320
printer finally took a crap. The problem I'm having now is finding a new printer that will work
with my Win 7 OS. I would like to know if any member here can suggest a reasonably priced
printer that I can still pair with the Win7 OS? Every printer on the market that I see just assumes
you have a newer OS.

Hi mbones57

Are you looking for an all-in-one or just a printer? I have an Epson XP-400 All-in-one ink jet and it works fine for my home office. I have win7, win10, & Linux Lite triple boot. Works flawlessly, had a couple issue with Linux Lite, however, I assume you don't use Linux OS.

Thanks for the reply Snick!

I'm looking for an all in one. I just tried to find the XP-400 but it looks like that is an older printer. I can only see used ones for sale on ebay. I would like to find a NEW printer that is not horribly expensive that still will work with Win 7.

There are still quite a few, but I think you'll need to check the manufacturer's support website for drivers to tell for sure. Since you're in the US, I suggest checking Staples or OfficeMax and find a few models that you're interested in, and then check the manufacturer's website to see if they have a Win7 driver.

For instance, if you'd prefer to stick with the Canon Pixma series, Staples has the TR4720 and TR8620 All-In-Ones, both of which have Win7 drivers, according to the Canon website.

A couple words of warning:

The global supply-chain backlogs are affecting availability. Many stores are back-ordered on a lot of printers, which have been sitting on ships stuck off Long Beach Harbor for the past several months and into the foreseeable future.

Depending on brand and model, beware that some manufacturers are using unsavory lock-ins to be able to use the printer. Everyone knows inkjets (notably, from Epson) have long used chips embedded in their cartridges to force you to use their ink. But what everyone may not (yet) know is that HP is requiring internet connectivity and an HP account on some models (at least, on their cheaper laserjet models). And if you lose connectivity, it stops printing. That little "gotcha" bit our neighborhood association recently, but if they had checked the website, the fact there were no actual drivers for any OS would have been a clue. (There was only a small stub that launched an online setup routine.)

Do not agree with Epson chips, I use Swift Ink from Plymouth Mich, 200XL cartridges. Epson warns you about using non Epson inkjet cartridges with a popup, I click through them and the Swift Ink cartridges work fine. You can have free shipping by googling swift ink promos, or similar. I live in SW suburbs of Detroit. Had an issue with a black 200xl cartridge not working. I contacted them, followed their instruction, still didn't work. A few days later I had a new, different black cartridge; work as it should. Additionally, when you are notified that a cartridge is low on ink, you can print several additional pages before the ink actually runs out.
I'll check more tomorrow for a suggestion or two. 11:30 pm here, hitting the sack!

I suggest you
  • Find a printer that meets your needs
  • See if it is available to buy
  • Go to the manufacturer website and see if they have Windows 7 drivers and other software for it
Here is an example of a Canon printer that has Windows 7 drivers and other software.

Unless you absolutely require a color printer, my advice is to go with a monochrome laser printer. I switched from inkjets about 8 years ago and have never regretted it. A laser will cost a little more up front but has a lower cost per printed page than an inkjet.

I no longer have to deal with clogged printer heads and empty ink cartridges. Unless you print many, many pages everyday, a toner cartridge will last for a long time.

My Brother printer has worked fine with Win 7, 8, 10 & 11 so far. You will need to do a little research to determine if a currently manufactured printer will work with Win 7 but would need to do that with any printer you buy.

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
Ther are quite a few. If you dont need anything fancy:

Minimum Windows operating system required: Windows 10 (32/64 bit), Windows 7 (32/64 bit), Windows 8 (32/64 bit), Windows 8.1 (32/64 bit), Windows Vista (32/64 bit), Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2 or later, XP Professional x64 Edition SP2.

Epson Expression Home XP-2155 Wireless Inkjet Printer

and there are others in that xp expression range.
