Help with processor

Hi, Uhm, this question is not related to windows 7, but still thought someone would be able to help me. I have a acer desktop with a mainboard with the code MPC73VE and I currently have a dual core processor. I now want to get a quad core processor bt dont exactly know if it will work with my current mainboard, or do I have to get another one? If you can please help.

Would be better with the full model number of your Acer, that number you posted returns next to no information.

As for whether a quad would work in it, it all comes down to whether the bios will support one or not. In most cases with an OEM computer they don't, as they would rather sell you a new computer with faster parts than allow you to change them.

depend on motherboard BIOS if it support or not so check your motherboard model and then look up Acer support site and see if there any support - if not then you cant upgrade to quad core - if new BIOS support Quad then you need to download and flash then once it done then install new CPU.

You can use any CPU that has a LGA775 socket. This means you can upgrade to any Core 2 Duo series or even a Core 2 Quad.
I would just go to ACER,com and check your computer model and it will tell you what you can install in it.

I would just go to ACER,com and check your computer model and it will tell you what you can install in it.

"Computeruser" will be able to insert any LGA775 CPU in the socket.

I wish that I knew whether all LGA775 motherboards that supported, say, a Pentium D would be compatible with all subsequent LGA775 CPUs, but I believe that isn't true. Some of them would require a BIOS update, and some combinations may never work at all. LGA775 was introduced nearly 6 years ago, for the infamous Prescott P4s.

It'd be easier to tell with more information about the system. Google doesn't reveal a chipset type for that Acer mainboard number.
