Help with RTM install (hangs at disk.sys)

So far not having a good time installing Win7 RTM.

I boot from the disk and it gets to the "Start Windows" screen (pre-install) and just hangs there. If I boot into safe mode for the install I see it gets to "disk.sys" and just stops there.

Unfortunately I've tried formatting the c: drive and then installing the RTM from disc, but that's not working either and now I'm OS-less until I figure this out. I'd really rather not go back to XP.

Any thoughts? I'm stumped.

Happy to report, it's installed and running very nicely. Something about Win7 did NOT like that extra 2GB in my system for some reason. I'm running 4GB now and it seems ok. I did have some mixed RAM (a 4GB kit, plus my old 2gb)... maybe something wasn't quite right since they weren't matched? All 6GB showed up in the BIOS ok though.

For the record, I've got this running with a 6gb mix of OCZ Reaper 8500 and 9600 @857mhz 4-4-4-12-2T right now and tested Prime stable for a good long time. Something about the initial Win7 setup didn't like all 6gb being in there, but now that it's up and running it's liking the 6gb just fine. :)

I fixed my issue.
It was due to my DvD drive being set to slave and not master (jumper setting) As soon as I switched it to master the install went perfectly.

Best

Hello guys, I up this thread, because after having tried almost every suggested solution, my windows 7 still wasn't able to finish its installation.

I found a solution to my problem that might be quite different than yours, but as it worked for me then ;
The story is that I bought separated parts to mount a new computer, after mounting, I set my DVD-Drive as 1st and HDD as 2nd in the BIOS for boot sequence (both of them are SATA drives). Then, I put windows 7 install dvd. First step goes through without any problem, but at this moment, Windows says "Need restarting"; here was my problem.

HOW I FAILED:
If I let the computer reboot alone, it will oddly select HDD Drive and try to boot on, and as Windows OS installation isnt done, it runs in a infinite loop, trying to load disk.sys driver.. And if I remember correctly, I can also say that it flagged my install as "failed" and would be unable to continue the installation.

HOW I SUCCEED:
At the first reboot, during install, dont let BIOS to select HDD for booting, press F8 continuously and then select "Windows Boot Manager" (which was the last element of the new boot sequence list). This time, windows should naturally continue the installation without freezing, but dont let him restart alone, always stay ready to select the boot device with F8 key because it needed 3 reboots in order to finish install.

Sincerely hope this will help you.

This thread is very old but must be getting google hits so here's more info:

During install it should reboot into Setup which will be listed as a multi-boot Menu item that defaults if not selected. Did you not get this screen?

Infinite installer reboot loop is normally only a problem with autostarting flash stick, which is why it's best to set HD first to boot then trigger a flash installer using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.
