Help with SSD

Tomorrow, I'm planning on purchasing a new SSD for my system. Looking for those of you who already own one to give your input on what you have vs these:

FRYS.com*|*PATRIOT
FRYS.com*|*Kingston Digital

Why these specifically? Well, I will have them in my posession tomorrow rather than waiting for delivery via online purchase. (And, this is going to be a purchase my wife will have NO knowledge about . It will be very suspicious to explain the UPS truck at my house dropping off a package . Lastly, money. These are the only ones within my budget that I can get from this place.)

Also, looking for some specific system setup and tweaks to get some good performance out of the drive. And help on how to set up the user folders permanently on my secondary storage drive.

Any and all help or comments are appreciated.

Neither of the drives that you have linked to support TRIM....which is a pretty big deal when it comes to SSD drives. And the Kingston has reviews saying that it has OS stuttering and such...so might want to shy away from that one.

I would do some more research first on Trim support and then find a product which supports TRIM.

parrks1 has made so very good points. Try looking into the Intel X25 series, the media outlets along with most internet tech sites reprimand the X25 as the top of the line in SSD's.

I placed one in my four year old HP dv-2037, and the difference is night and day.

SSD's are great just ensure you are getting one that will be what you really want.

That article lists all the major controller brands for SSDs and their abilities.

While the Kingston SSD you're looking at doesn't natively support trim, you can download an edited version of the Intel driver it uses that will give it trim support.

price is the key word. if i had the money, i'd have either the ocz or intel. but alas, maybe one day.

trying to go for "best bang for the buck."

(as I stated, I wanted a drive now. no waiting for online order and also because this was a sneak purchase--my wife couldn't know. so, i settled. maybe one day when i'm rich, i'll have a funky 8 drive raid setup. until then, poor man's way)

I'm waiting for an SSD till the new 20nm process gets off the ground, cheaper and better, but it'll take a year.
