Help with troubleshooting

My buddy's computer started acting up recently, where it started to freeze or restart his computer while he was doing intensive tasks(tabbing out of games to do some web searching, raiding in games, etc...). So after some searching online he replaced some parts in order being: HDD, Power Supply, Memory, and Videocard. After replacing all of these we gave up and went with a new motherboard as well. AM3 motherboard w/ matching processor(not sure what his model is at the moment). When he starts his computer now it says "CPU Fan Error" while his fan is working. So after bypassing it he now gets the blue screen of death. Any suggestions at this point? I told him to try reinstalling windows 7 but haven't heard any word yet(he's been at work now since). If this does not fix it, any suggestions of what to do? From what I understand if a CPU is dead then his computer wouldn't start up at all... it's getting frustrating since we're so close to Diablo 3 launch!

You mentioned BSOD's...


We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

if his previous motherboard used a different chipset to the new one, it wont be able to boot into the old instance of windows.

he will need to reinstall windows and give it the correct HAL drivers for the chipset

how to bypass CPU Fan ERROR in Windows 7 or XP

ello,

First, after passing BIOS boot press F8 to get into maintenance screen of Microsoft.

Second, choose SAFE mode

Third, after logging into Windows 7 Safe mode session, go to Windows services management screen and just disable WMI Service on Windows 7.

Then, after restarting the system you probably will enter the normal Windows session.

Walla ....
