Help with USB to IDE

Hello sorry if I posted this on the wrong place anyways I bought a USB to IDE kit and when I plugged it on for the first time it failed to install the driver upset me cause I really need the files off the HD if you can help me it would be very helpful

What's the name and model of the adapter? If it came with drivers, try to install the drivers before inserting the usb. You may need to download updated drivers from the manufacturer.

I have a couple of those usb to ide/sata adapters, with XP and newer Win you do not need drivers, just a functioning usb 2.0 port.

You need to power up the drive before you connect the usb port.

Been a long time since I used the IDE side on mine. I picked up a IDE to eSATA that has a faster transfer than the USB 2 adapter. I still use one box that does not have SATA, so the USB comes in handy if I need to copy something off a SATA drive.

I take it this is an IDE pin drive, right? Then, you probably need to check the jumpers to make sure this is set to be the Master in a single drive system. I used to use such adapters a lot when my PCs had a mix of IDE and SATA disks, and I always forgot to reset the jumpers before I plugged them into an adapter.
