Helping Friends make computer need help!

So im helping my friends make a computer and we finished wiring everything. we tryed to turn on the computer but the screen showed nothing... we did hear a bang the first time we turned it on and smelled some smoke, the next time we turned it on nothing happened, no bang, no smoke. is this a discharge or is it some other problem? If it is discharge what can we do if not what can we do?

Hi illway, by the sounds of things , you wired something incorrectly , chances are you may be lucky and only the fuse in the psu as blown before any major damage has been done,
recheck all the wiring and connections ,make sure everything is in its right orientation ;)

I dont think its a PSU problem cuz we could still turn it on and the fans still worked.. I think it might be a video problem cuz i cant see anything on the mobo

have a close look at the mobo,look for any signs of blown caps etc , do you have another graphic card or access to one to try ? you could have fried the mobo :(

BLOWN as in burnt out or bulging on the top , when you turn on the pc do you get any post beeps ?:(

where abouts on the mobe is the black square?
The chipped black square is likely a MOSFET, or power control transistor. When they get too hot from over-voltage or current, the black epoxy that they are made of will often fracture, and the broken piece will frequently go flying. That was probably the bang that was heard. The smoke likely came from that component, or other components that were supplied any voltage or current from that device down the line.

Sounds to me like you probably fried the motherboard ...
And possibly the RAM and CPU as well... :(
