would anyone be able to help me with a current dilemma?: I updated my bluetooth driver recommended by Microsoft to Broadcom/lenovo . as a result of updating he driver, my desktop icons disappeared and also most of my operating system as been deleted , nearly all of my hard drive has been deleted of files including music pictures and videos and all of my start button programs have been deleted too, theyre not in the recycle bin, and when i tried to reboot, my system reported a faulty or undetectable device, now when I try a repair reinstall the repair shows a problem which can not be fixed. And as such has rendered my pc absolutely useless. any ideas guys, I am seriously unimpressed and as you can imagine insanely angry! I did have antivirus software but as this was a secure and recommended site by microsoft I accepted the driver update, I "was " running w7ultimate 64 bit, now I have nothing what so ever, and this problem has also invalidated my licence key, how the hell this happened from a simple bluetooth update is beyond me, but like I say this has destroyed my pc completely, if you have any ideas they would be much appreciated, I have removed the hard drive and tried to retrieve the data through another machine, but its as if theres nothing there at all. please tell me if this can be fixed and what options are available. thanks folks.

use Recuva to get the files if the still exist as long as they haven't been overwritten.

It sounds like something corrupted the file table? I dont know what a fix for this is, but you could try a startup repair. run it from the win7 DVD (there should be a list item for it) and run it a few times usually 3 times is recommended. This will replace key files and system structure from the DVD.

The other option I think is only from within windows so if you can get into safe mode then you could do this:

Try the startup repair first, but I dont know if it will help




if you can retrieve your info, then you can format and do a clean install.



I would advise getting an external drive as well for backup purposes. I do this. its the only way to be sure you wont loose info.

I dont want to post too much at once, but one other thing. the invalidated key should still be usuable. You will probably have to call MS, but its not that painful.

have your tried a system restore to an earlier date ?

Yes, the modern way is to have your files and a Win7 backup image on external so you can reimage your HD in 20 minutes when something disatrous happens.

Try the Startup Repair recommended by booting the Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD. Startup Repair should include System Restore if it is viable option, but if not try running it from the Recovery Tools list by itself also.

Try the file recovery software recommended if you cannot start Win7. You can also boot free Partition Wizard CD to Explore files remaining on the HD to see if they still exist. Sometimes shrinking the ruined OS using PW to make room for a rescue install will allow you to recover your files once Win7 is reinstalled, then you can delete the ruined Win7 partition.

Otherwise you'll need run your Recovery partition or disk set if you have factory-installed Win7. Or boot Win7 installer for your version to reinstall using Product Key stickered to machine or which came with retail 7.

There is a way to do a system restore with the install disk. Providing you had sys restore enabled, you use the disk and DOS to get at the sys restore files. Then you choose a restore point before your bluetooth download. Its not to complicated to do, I did it. I just do not have a link to give you, been awhile. I'll see if I can find the printout I have on the method. I did it for XP, I bet its same for all windows OS.
