Heroes of Might and Magic III + Win7?

Okay, I tried that and ran setup in compatibility mode, tried both XP and Windows 98. It still will not install past 94%. I tried installing to different places, tried going through the autorun, nothing works.

Did you try it in Compatibility for Windows 95? Also, are you running Windows 7 32-bit, or 64-bit?

I realize that this involves throwing more money at the problem, but I still think the easiest method for getting HoMMIII running on modern machines is to purchase the digital download from GoG.com ($9.99). They've repackaged it with an installer that plays nice with Vista/Win 7 (Even though they seem to claim that they don't technically support Win7)

I'd be cautious about that, this person has had issues with GoG's HOMMIII in Win7 64: Windows 7 Compatibility - Work in Progress - General discussion - Forum - GOG.com

Although others have successfully tested it in both Win7 32 and 64: GoG.com games working on Windows 7! 64bit! o/ - General discussion - Forum - GOG.com

Homm3 working

As BDJ suggested in an earlier post, i just copied the 3DO directory from an old win xp install to my comp running win 7 x64. I went through the main Heroes 3 directory and changed all the exe files to run under XP SP3 compatibility and as an administrator.

This solution obviously won't work for those without an old install on hand. But if you do, this works perfectly.

As a side note, i'm running the Wake of God mod on my HOMM3 install. If you haven't tried it, i'd really recommend it. It adds a lot of customization options to the game such and can really extend the games life. There's nothing to lose b/c you can always play an unmodded game with the original settings.

Heroes 3 sound problems?

I’m having a problem AFTER installation. I can get the program to install and run without any issue at all using Windows XP SP2 compatibility. However, when running the game, after the initial “3DO” screen/voice output, it will turn to the “New World Computing” screens and then to the main menu of the game. In those screens there is no audio or speech at all, including any in-game screens as well. Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, how would I fix the audio?

So I too have a problem with the game. I tried what was explained here, nothing helped.

So my prob is that when I press Autorun it pops up that window with Instal, Play and so on clickers, and Non of them buttons work. The window disappears after I press any of them. Any ideas?

I had the same problem, when i tried to run autorun or setup nothing happens.
My solution was safe mode, just run windows in safe mode and run setup again. ;)

I'm not going to support pirate copies of games. But after struggling to install this game from my original cds. I found a copy available online that was 'self contained' (i.e. no install necessary) which runs no problem at all.

Maybe just an option to consider. The release group was geedunk. I won't say anymore on the subject.

Apologies if this goes against T&C.

i got this game going with my mate in the weekend you copy WING32.DLL from the WING folder where heroes 2 is installed to C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 as 64 bit really has 2 system folders

if you dont have the dll it can be easily downloaded by searching google for it

i run the game on no compatability settings also very important otherwise lan games dont work if you do lan you might get a error like me but it came up once and the lan game we had went fine

hope you can all get it going its an old game which i love playing

also one more thing to note is resolution you have to turn your resolution down if you have a massive screen

GOG.com

It was posted earlier, but anyone still having trouble should give GOG.com a try. They have a digital copy of HOMM3 Complete for 10$. They've updated the listing and it is now officially compatible with Win 7 (32 & 64). I haven't tried it myself but gog.com is a good site and can be trusted.

I'm also using the GoG version (H3 Complete) and have to say it works flawlessly, except for multiplayer.

My resolution auto changes to suit the game and stretches it to fit my 24" monitor (it's not as bad as it sounds).

To play multilplayer, my friends an I use a program called GameRanger. I highly recommend it.

Umn.. hello, sorry if this may be necro-posting and what not..
My issue with this, though small, is the game crashes when loading up a custom map (Map made by me) as I want to test it out, but maps preset to games installation works, not my map though.
Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete is what I have, UbiSoft version, not from gog .

Again, sorry if this may be necro posting.

Lets make it clearer-- I made a map, largest size and has a full land mass dedicated to player. As a test I randomly placed the enemy to be unreachable for the test (will become available once progression continues), and it crashes after loading screen.
Did a test on a new map again but with small land with only enemy hero and good hero, it loaded and no crash and it was small map, what could be the issue with the map I want?

This worked for me

I know this is an ancient thread, but I thought I'd contribute this for other Googlers like myself.

I have used the Heroes 3 with the Wake of Gods mod on three machines 64-bit Windows 7 and one running 64-bit Windows 8 without any problems. If you are having problems running the game, perhaps installing the mod will help: Heroes 3: In the Wake of Gods. Download Section - Heroes 5(V). Heroes 4(IV). Heroes 3(III). Heroes maps. All about Heroes of Might and Magic.

On one Windows 7 machine I could not install Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete. Autorun.exe and Setup.exe on the discs (or ISOs of them) would simply not work. I installed HOMM3 in a virtual machine running 32-bit Windows XP and simply copied the C:/Program Files/3DO/Heroes 3 folder back onto the host machine. I didn't bother with the registry entries. I installed the Wake of Gods add-on and everything works great.

Running HOMM3 out of a virtual machine (like VirtualBox) is always an option too. I think HOMM3 will run in Linux with Wine if you don't have access to a Windows XP ISO.
