Seventy years ago this morning, on a day that will live in infamy, Japan attacked the United States during peace time.

Caught by surprise and without effective leadership, the enlisted men of the United States Navy fought back so furiously that half the Japanese planes were damaged. After evaluating the extent of the damage, the Japanese decided not to launch a second attack, a decision which ultimately cost them World War 2.

And my father, who remained at his post after being wounded, was one of those enlisted men.
