I did a pretty extensive examination of the iPad today and it is an impressive piece of technology for what it is.
It is fairly fast due to the lack of formal OS
The apps available for it are quite nice
For those concerned about typing, there is a separate keyboard att. (You have to buy it)
Attractive, good battery life, multi-touch capable
OTOH
A 10 inch piece of glass is a fragile thing...there is no protection and I would be very concerned about just dumping it in a purse or a backpack
Backlit screens are okay for reading but very fatiguing for serious reading...much prefer digital ink
No phone, so you still have to carry both the phone and the iPad (it will allow VOIP though)
No Flash capability so surfing is handicapped
No web-cam
Built in 3g capability is + $130 and service is $15 - $30/month (Kindle includes free 3G)
No memory stick
Nice for what it is, but it seems to be an answer to a question I haven't ever asked.
Think I'd rather buy a Kindle to read (or one of the competing devices that will pop up this year) and use a laptop for my computing needs on the road, but...to each his own.
I'm definitely not an Apple fan-boy. I believe they are over priced and over hyped, but I'm not going to bash the product.
Cheers
P.S. What will be interesting is what it evolves into over the next couple of years and what the Slate and other competitors come up with.

Hi there
now if it had a PEN for writing / taking notes, a small scanner + bar code reader attached to where a webcam is attached on a laptop, a Wifi connection (these are often available FREE in Hotels etc) instead of having to PAY for a 3G connection when you've probably ALREADY got a 3G mobile with internet and remember 3G is slowish compared with decent wifi and finally the possibility of attaching a USB device then it *could* be interesting -- but as presently constituted it's just an expensive Glass Tea Tray.
Since most mobiles have some sort of camera on them a webcam on this is unnecessary IMO.
Cheers
