Hi-Gain Wireless antenna recommendation?

Hey everyone, as some of you know I've been having WIFI issues so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a 'hi-gain wireless antenna' thats relatively cheap, but will work.

I'm currently looking at this one; Newegg.com - HAWKING HWU8DD IEEE 802.11b/g USB 2.0 Hi-Gain Wireless-G Dish Adapter Up to 54Mbps Data Rates 64/128-bit WEP Data Encryption
WPA, WPA2 - Wireless Adapters


So any suggestions will be appreciated.

How long distance you have to cover? I use a Belkin N1 Vision router as told here, and together with Belkins USB WiFi adapter I get signal and can use my home network in a local pub about 200 metres ( 1/8th of a mile) away. I recommend.

About Newegg, did you read this user comment:

Most current drivers have made it impossible to use under Vista Home Basic. Even opening the network connection panel causes a driver error BSOD. The latest drivers from the company are from October of 2008 so there isn't any support for it now.

If problems occur already with Vista, how is it going to work with 7?

Oh I read the comments on another site but it was a site I never used before so I just linked it to newegg, so I didn't see that comment. :S

Uhm.. the internet signal i am attempting to connect off of is within 1,000' but there are some trailers in between me and that signal, all of which have aluminum siding =P

Okay I'm not sure exactly on how far away, but the lot sizes for each trailer is 100'x100'

If one trailer lot is 100 feet, about 30 meters, you have about 500 feet or 150 meters.

If the router were a N1, and you had a N USB adapter, I'm sure you'd get max signal. Almost any N1 router could manage it; according your image it's mostly open space between the signal source and your place.

Maybe using a N or N1 router as a repeater at your end? If you already get the signal at one bar, the router there must (IMO) be at least G+ MIMO or N/N1.

Don't know, difficult situation. Hope you find something.

That's a G, not even G+ MIMO. When you already find the signal, even not so strong, it tells there are almost ideal conditions. I'm almost sure you could manage with the USB N WiFi adapter I told earlier.

I am a little surprised. Don't know what to say. If only the last letter in your routers name were X instead of S; WRT54GX is a G +MIMO.

I am sure you know this, but here's the difference:




EDIT: This comes with about 6 feet cable, so you could try to find the right place.

That USB adapter is sexy beyond belief. Lol $80 though would it be worth it?

I have the [HWU8DD-B] Hi-Gain™ USB Wireless-G Dish Adapter it will work with windows 7 downloaded the vista driver from the hawking tech website I use this to grab my neghbors connection and he has given me permision todo so and i get his signal from 500-800ft away

Yes, and no. That adapter just picks the signal better, reaches beyond a normal WiFi adapters range to see if there is something to pick. The bars indicating the signal strenght tell how strong your adapter picks the signal, not how strong the signal is sent from the router.
