Hi everybody I'm new here so sorry if i put this i the wrong place! I've been looking around a while i was interested on installing windows 7 on my laptop! i only have 224.4mb of ram. so i was reading and i downloaded "Hex Editor Neo" and configured the file to bypass the low ram message and deleted the ei.cfg. when i'm installing windows 7 home premium it installs ok than when it reboots to finish the installation it just freezes. the windows 7 entrance stays on the screen but the hhd light goes off. am i doing something wrong?? here are the details on my computer.

Laptop Model:Ebuddy 8.3
HDD Capacity: 30gb
Ram: 222.4MB
Cpu: Pentium 4

You need more RAM I believe.

The minimum requirement is 1GB and you only have 25% of the bare Min. Requirement.


But your specs say 2GB. Do you have 2GB or 256MB?

You'll need at least a gig.

I have run with 528 mb RAM on an HP laptop but had to do without an AV and gadgets. Upgrading to 1 gb made all the difference.

There is no way it will run with 256mb. Upgrade and that Pentium 4 should do fine.

I did a test desktop computer during beta testing with 384 mb (pent-II).

But with a laptop probably some memory is allocated to video.

yeah it has 4 options for video: 8mb, 16mb ,24mb, 32mb for the video

It sounds like you have an integrated graphics system. That means a portion of your total memory (in your case you can select 8MB, 16MB, etc) is set aside to handle video requirements. If your machine had a total of 256MB RAM and you set aside 32MB, all of your other applications would have about 224MB RAM to operate on.

Carlos, I hope I'm not offending you with this but as my dear fellow geeks have already told you, that's not going to work. You need more RAM, and even then it's not sure that computer is suitable for Windows 7.

You also need to do a think about that tiny hdd. Windows will consume 10-15 gb plus programs like MS Office and Acrobat take up more than a gb each. System restore and hibernation file will also take up a decent bit of space. That'll leave you with very little maneouvre room, you may quickly start getting low disk space warnings and find yourself constantly moving out data.

Also run the win 7 upgrade advisor to give you a clearer picture of what your machine lacks in hardware.

Check the laptop manufacturer for what is the maximum memory the motherboard can hold. & the max size of the ram chips.

i tried alone time ago but they don't say on there page and i have the computers documentation but i doesn't say either! it just says ddr1 nothing else.

If your finances can handle it, and if the mother board will support more than 1GB RAM, try to get the most RAM you can. You can use a website like Crucial to get the RAM tech specs with their memory advisor tool and then shop around at places like NewEgg, Tiger Direct, etc for the best prices.

Besides the Crucial scan, I cross-check by googling the exact System Specs, then the computer make and model number + RAM upgrade. Then study all of the results carefully until confident that you have the right RAM specs.

There may be some outlier results, for example, that say DDR-2 2700 can run 3200, but unless this is repeatedly confirmed I would not buy anything other than what the most common results report.

Then I would not buy online unless the dealer allows replacement for wrong specs.

For these reasons, it is often easier to take a laptop to the counter at CompUSA or another shop which claims they have the correct RAM at a good price, and where they will help you swap in the RAM on the spot to see if it registers correctly at Computer>Properties and System Information. Phone ahead to be sure.

Carlos, another aspect of W7 is the availability to use Ready Boost. If you can lay your hands on a fast flash drive either usb/sd card if your system has a reader you can see if the drive can be configured to add all or a portion of the size to assist the limited ram.

Hello, I'm also new.
Well, you see you need at least 1GB ram, like I do, it seems to be working GREAT.
But like stated before you also need more Hard Drive Space.
I have a 160GB harddrive and I have 104GB free out of 148GB but I do have to admit that I have a lot space used up by: TV Shows, Visual Studio, Microsoft Office, Music, so yeah that does take up a lot of room. But I say that you shouldn't run it on the system. Either you upgrade your hardware or just buy a new PC.

I would stick with XP which will run fine on those specs.

There are some good deals out there today for new laptops or desktops.
