Hibernation broken

This is the support site for MS

Microsoft Corporation

There may be a reference to the problem you're having on one of these, but it does give you the option to open a support ticket where they can answer the question.

It's all very strange, from what you describe it's like as soon as you shut it down, something running in the background kicks it back on....

Try doing a power efficiency report, that might shed some light, here is the link:

all signs point to this being some sort of disk partition issue now, or perhaps some corruption of the OS where it now has trouble mounting disks (does it have to temporarily give the hidden partition a drive letter in order to hibernate or something like that?). bcdedit doesn't see the partition unless i manually mount it myself, my machine has issue with giving some usb devices letters, and the F8 startup menu doesn't work (which requires being able to read the hidden boot partition). Perhaps files in that partition are corrupted or something - not sure. But I'm now confident that there's no process or device waking my computer up. Rather, it's having some issue with the hidden partition. I'll try the MS site - thanks.

@borg: thanks, that thread is what originally prompted me to assign a drive letter to my hidden partition, as bcdedit wasn't able to see the bcd store without that. So, the bcdedit command doesn't fix the problem, but assigning a drive letter to the hidden partition does serve as a workaround in times of need.

the problem persists...

appreciate the links borg, though none of them help. The quote about hibernate not being an option in systems with >4GB ram must be for some other OS or something. I have 6GB in mine and had been hibernating happily for months.

I'm sorry I couldn't help...at this point I'm out of options save for go to the Microsoft site and open a support ticket. Or do some intense googling

I will keep my eyes open though.

It could just be one little obscure thing that's doing it.
