Hi,

I have been using Windows for a very long time but I am far from an expert in it. I would like to know if it is possible to create user accounts in windows that do not show up when the computer starts up. For example I would like to have four user accounts (with passwords). This user accounts would be used to access some specific files. However on start-up I would like Windows to continue boot in desktop without the need of any passwords. Is that possible? If yes then where can I get more information about this?

Regards,
Sja785

Hello Sja, welcome to the Seven Forums.

If your goal is just to be able to automatically log on to a certain Windows user account, and when needed use other accounts, you don't need to hide them. This of course only if you have no other reason to hide accounts.

Follow this tutorial to setup automatic logon, and when you need to use another account just switch user or logout to change the account you want to use.

First of all thanks for the replies. The main reason I want this is security. At home I have a network made of a central computer (that store several shared files) and other laptops of my parents. I want to only share these files with those that have valid credentials (i.e. - managed to log on their laptop first). If not I would like a pop-on box that asks for a username or password. Is this possible with Windows7 using the methods above?
