I've had a new computer with win7 64bit for 4 months.

A couple of days ago 4 removable discs (f,g,h & i) appeared on the page that shows details of my computer (start->computer)

Using device manager under Portable devices I see 4 units coded f,g,h & i.

I can remove them from the device manager, but when I restart the computer they reappear.

I and not aware of activating these four removable disks / portable devices.

I cannot find a way of removing or hiding these unwelcome listings

I've tried restoring my computer to a previous level, but the 4 devices/disks reappear

Any and all help welcome.

regards

The first thing that I suggest when there are changes to the computer is to run a through anti virus scan. In addition download and run malwarebytes. This will elimiante the most serious of causes, we can move on from there.

Once your computer is known to be clean, in lieu of anything else, you can use system restore from before the problem. Before taking such action be sure that you did not install any new programs etc.

I did as Richard suggested, the malwarebytes found one infected registry data file. Richard's program removed that file and reset my computer BUT afterwards the four disks/devices were still displayed.

Hello Tony, and welcome to Seven Forums.

These sound like they may be from a media/memory card reader. You can set to hide empty drives to remove/hide them until you insert a memory card.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I'd ticked the box show all hidden files and folders.
I've now ticked the option don't show hidden files and folders and my errant f, g, h & i discs have gone!!

Sorry about the delay in responding, but I'm in a differnet time zone to the Lone Star State

Thank you Shawn
