Solved High CPU and Memory Usage at Idle

Hey guys, just installed a new Samsung 850 EVO SSD Dual Booting with Linux. Used what I believe is called a Retail Version of Windows 7 to avoid all the junk that was included with the Toshiba Disks. Seems recently Windows 7 is running at 50+% CPU and 30+% at Idle right after boot, is this normal for an SSD? And, I left it like this for like an hour just to see if it would calm down.

Right now running 82% CPU and 51% Memory with only Three Tabs open and nothing else...using Chrome. One my Yahoo Mail, Youtube music, This site and my Bookmarks Tab. I've looked around at what is running but nothing seems abnormal, any suggestions?

This is windows updates time
Micro... has been playing cat and mouse on these download links so if they do not exist yet you might have to use the catalog to get them if the links don't work,
When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.

Make sure KB3020369 is installed
Win-7 32 bit

Then manually install KB3172605
Win-7 32 bit,

After switch your windows update settings back to what you had prior and manually check for updates and the rest should show up shortly.

You must use Internet explorer to download from the catalog
Microsoft Update Catalog
You also have to right click ie and use run as administrator don't ask me why but the 2 recommended browser add-ons won't install unless you do,

The dreaded Update issues...O-boy. Thanks so much for the heads up ThrashZone, I'll do this tonight.

I have Updates set to "Check for Updates but let me decide to Download and Install them" I also ran a "Check for Updates" and it stuck on that for an hour also, sorry forgot to mention that.

I also have set to "Only allow Important Updates"

It's a shame Windows 7 is becoming so hard to maintain because it is so awesome. I wonder what businesses do about all this, call the IT guy every month to fix?

ThrashZone, I ran this one for 35 minutes, ran out of time. Is this going to take a long time to Run as I expect it will?

Then I tried to Install the "Optional" Updates after fully researching them, that stuck for two hours, so I shut down for the night.

Why would this happen to me, is this something I did wrong with my setup/installation of Windows 7 Home Premium?

No but you should not run Window update until KB3172605 is installed. That is why TrashZone said to set the
updates to Never check for updates and restart the machine first, then manually install KB3172605.

Thanks guys all good now. I fully botched the instructions Thrashzone gave me. I do have a few questions if anyone has time.

1. Is it okay to Omit "Optional" Updates?

2. Can I set Updates to "Never Check for Updates" and do it myself?

Yes, you can omit optional updates if you don't see the need. I look at each one and decide.

I set my Windows update to "Check for Updates but let me decide to Download and Install them". It will work fine now that KB3172605 is installed.

Setting it to "Never Check for Updates" was to make sure that Windows update did not run until KB3172605 was installed.

However, you can leave it that way if you want and just check for them manually.
